Professional Level
The Systems Administrator position aligns as Level 2 Engineer at 9th Way Insignia. An Engineer 2 typically plans and directs research or development work on complex projects, along with engaging various parties in design and development. Costs and recommendations of new components may also involve part of the job scope. Performs multiple engineering-related tasks in various assignments within the project and firm. Engineer 2 has broad knowledge of engineering procedures and assists in the resolution of complex problems. Engineer 2 has strong technical skills and background, a knack for learning new technologies, and a blend of good problem-solving and innovation needed to resolve a wide variety of technical production challenges.
Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, and optimize VAEC environments supporting the Enrollment System (ES), EDB, IVM, and VistA REE.
- Provision, configure, and maintain cloud-based and hybrid infrastructure (Windows, Linux, RHEL, VMware, Azure/AWS).
- Implement and manage system security controls in compliance with FedRAMP, FISMA, IRS 1075, HIPAA, and VA directives.
- Support CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and environment refreshes for development, test, and production.
- Monitor system health, performance, and capacity using tools such as Splunk, Azure Monitor, and custom dashboards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve incidents, outages, and degradation across cloud and on-premises systems.
- Manage user access, authentication, and privileged accounts (Active Directory, MFA, RBAC).
- Perform regular backups, disaster recovery testing, and root cause analysis for system failures.
- Maintain system documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering, security, and product teams to support modernization, migration, and integration efforts.
- Ensure compliance with change management, patching, and vulnerability remediation processes.
- Provide Tier 2/3 escalation and after-hours support for critical incidents.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related technical discipline.
- 6 years of relevant system administration experience; 10 additional years may be substituted for education.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, VAEC), virtualization (VMware), and enterprise operating systems (Windows, Linux, RHEL).
- Strong understanding of security frameworks, compliance requirements, and access management.
- Experience supporting CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell).
- Proficiency with monitoring and observability tools (Splunk, Azure Monitor).
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and support after-hours escalation.
