Job Family Definition:
Analyzes, designs, programs, debugs and modifies firmware (e.g., DSP, embedded code, BIOS). Work often involves analog and digital hardware and real-time operating systems. Position requires knowledge and exposure to hardware design. Typically programs in machine language, assembly language and high-level languages (e.g., C, C++).

With a product line expanding into exciting new areas such as Artificial Intelligence, HPE is looking for talent that can play a critical role in defining and delivering innovative solutions for our AI-focused servers.
As a firmware engineer supporting HPE’s ProLiant XD servers targeted for the AI market, you will play an integral role in designing, defining, and delivering industry leading server products and solutions. As a Senior UEFI Firmware Engineer at HPE, you will architect, design, develop, debug, and maintain firmware to provide innovative products and solutions to our customers, evaluate and design industry standards and new technologies, and help define and shape new industry leading products. The position offers the qualified candidate the opportunity to work in an exciting, high profile, team-oriented, and fast-paced environment. The position includes working with the latest in hardware and software technology, including flagship GPU solutions from industry leading partners like Nvidia and AMD, and provides excellent opportunities to gain a wide breadth of experience.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
7+ years’ experience in firmware or BIOS/UEFI development.
Responsibilities:
Leads multiple project teams of other firmware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners responsible for all stages of design and development for complex HPE AI servers, including solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration.
Manages and expands relationships with internal and outsourced development partners on firmware design and development for HPE AI servers.
Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with AI server systems design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
Provides domain-specific expertise and overall firmware leadership and perspective to cross- organization projects, programs, and activities.
Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into AI-focused server projects and activities in the firmware design organization.
Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.
Knowledge and Skills
In-depth knowledge of UEFI architecture and development (PEI, DXE, UEFI).
Solid programming skills in C/C++.
Proficiency in Python is preferred.
Strong knowledge of software engineering concepts, with emphasis on component and object-oriented programming.
Strong firmware, software, and hardware background.
Knowledge of OS architecture.
Knowledge of computer architecture.
Knowledge of industry standard technologies including ACPI, USB, SMBIOS, IPMI, Redfish, PCI Express, and CXL.
Knowledge of open firmware efforts such as OpenBMC is a plus.
Experience with Git and GitHub for source control management.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent code documentation and commenting skills.
Excellent debug and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
