The Motorola Service Center (MSC) works closely with Field Service Technicians, System Managers, Engineering, Sales, Project Managers, System Technologists, and Service Partners to accomplish the assigned tasks.
Job Description

  • Maintenance and management of highly technical Motorola subscribers.

  • Focus on maintaining optimal performance levels across an integrated P25 system while taking a proactive approach to address and mitigate subscriber issues and malfunctions, as well as, system-level alarms/errors.

  • Manages subscribers through routine maintenance, performance monitoring, and system-wide preventative maintenance.

  • Work with customers to develop codeplugs and implementation of custom programming in subscribers.

  • Manage P25 systems availability through routine system maintenance and performance monitoring.

  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of the P25 system implementation, upgrades, or support issues.

  • Provide a total familiarity with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques in transport, communications, and RF P25 systems.

  • Team with System Manager, Engineering, Project Management, Sales, System Technologists, and our Service Partners to effectively design, implement, optimize, and cutover advanced communication systems that meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Help organize and implement upgrades for the P25 radio system and dispatch centers.

  • Work side by side with the customer to help them with their system needs and subscriber needs.

  • Would need to be at the customer site a couple of days a month.

Preferred Candidate Expectations:

  • Familiar with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques for current model digital and analog Motorola communications equipment and system architectures.

  • Proficient with Radio Management and all software used in programming and codeplug development for subscribers.

  • Experience with P25 Systems, LMR RF systems, wired/wireless communication systems such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), networking equipment, IT networks, and subscriber equipment.

  • Knowledge of configuration and testing of channel banks, routers, hubs, switches and Motorola two‐way radio and subscriber products.

  • Computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access

  • Strong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor partner community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service teams.

  • Able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations

  • Proven experience or ability to quickly learn the use and operation of equipment commonly used in the optimization and testing of Motorola Communications Systems (Communications Systems Analyzers, Power Sensors and Watt Meters, TIMS sets, CPS, RSS, Antenna Systems Analyzers (FDRs), T1 test sets, etc.)

Required Candidate Experience:

  • 5+ years experience with Motorola Astro P25 Communications Systems, VHF, UHF, 700/800 Public Radio systems, and 911/ECW/Airbus equipment

  • Associate degree or EET, Technical Certified, Project Management, IT Certified OR Military Technical Certified 

  • Experience with one or more of the following: P25 radio systems, NICE public safety loggers, LMR RF systems, wired/wireless communication systems, networking equipment, and IT networks.

  • Must have very strong knowledge of wired/wireless communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), must be proficient in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance, NICE public safety loggers, systems to include cabling, channel banks, hubs, routers, switches, and bridges. 

  • Strong knowledge of standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packet-switching techniques

  • Self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.

  • Use of equipment commonly used in the optimization and testing of Motorola Two‐Way radio (Communications Systems Analyzers, watt meters, TIMS sets, CPS, RSS, Antenna Systems Analyzers (FDRs), T1 test sets, etc.

  • Good understanding of Motorola Trunking, P25, and SmartZone systems

  • Performs troubleshooting at sub‐system level as a subject matter expert.

  • Strives for optimal system performance.

  • Able to develop and present technical training.

  • Provides guidance in integrating new tools and solutions into the operations of the team.

Additional Candidate Expectations:

  • 25%-50% travel within the Metropolitan Phoenix area. With the opportunity to potentially travel within the T6, T7, and T8 Western Region. The territory includes California, Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Texas.

  • FCC License and industry certifications are a plus.

  • Must have/keep a clean driving record.

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by the government customer

  • Must have ETA certification within six months of hire date.

  • Must be able to successfully pass and maintain the ability to pass background checks and obtain security clearances, as well as possess and maintain a clean driving record.

This position is subject to working in high-security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.
