About Us
Our teams are putting the world’s retailers online using the cloud, robotics, AI, and IoT. We provide services to partner clients globally via our innovative advanced robotics technology, known as the Ocado Smart Platform ("OSP"), this drives our highly automated, multi-million pound Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs). In our CFCs - together with the proprietary software applications - we operate a world-class online grocery business that automates the single pick of products, ready for your online delivery.
About the Role
Within the ASRS department, our Grid development teams focus on delivering innovative, reliable products tailored to the diverse needs of our clients and customers.
As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will conduct structural analyses of ASRS physical storage infrastructure, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and codes. You will provide expert input to designers to ensure structural integrity, feasibility, and compliance are seamlessly integrated into design solutions.
Your work will include performing global and local calculations and simulations to predict failure modes under various load cases, including static, dynamic, and fatigue loads, as well as crack and damage tolerance analysis. Using your expertise, you will collaborate with Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineers to resolve or mitigate identified failure modes.
Additionally, you will perform both upfront conceptual de-risking and detailed structural validation, utilizing a combination of hand calculations, structural-specific analysis tools, and physical experimentation.
What you will be doing
- Conduct global and local structural simulations to evaluate system behavior and component performance under a range of load cases.
- Perform detailed structural analyses, including static, dynamic, fatigue, and damage tolerance assessments, using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and other relevant software.
- Apply and ensure compliance with structural engineering standards, building codes, and industry best practices in all analyses and designs.
- Develop and improve internal tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy in structural modeling and analysis.
- Collaborate with global subject matter experts and cross-functional teams to address structural challenges and align designs with regional requirements.
- Provide technical input to designers to ensure structural integrity, feasibility, and compliance are integrated into design solutions.
- Prepare detailed reports and recommendations to support decision-making throughout the design and development process.
- Perform calculations to evaluate pressures, loads, stresses, and material performance, ensuring alignment with standards and codes.
- Identify potential failure modes, assess risks, and develop mitigation strategies to ensure robust and reliable designs.
- Participate in peer and design reviews, offering insights to improve structural reliability and overall quality.
- Estimate structural engineering tasks for project planning and ensure the timely and high-quality delivery of your work.
About you
- Degree in structural engineering.
- Experience as a structural engineer/stress analyst.
- Ability to conduct FE Analysis in modern tools.
- Ability to identify and mitigate technical risk through calculation and simulation.
- Ability to assess, challenge and identify gaps in technical requirements.
- Ability to influence concepts to meet technical requirements.
