Summary Generated by Built In

This is a great opportunity to join the Responsible Business team within Strategy, Performance and Sustainability. We’re looking for a Senior Strategy Consultant to join our team to develop our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) disclosures.

We are a small team with a wide ranging and varied remit, undertaking important and influential work to very high standards and tight deadlines. You’ll be responsible for communicating externally on our progress against our ESG ambitions and Mutual Good Commitments, through our externally facing ESG Disclosures, as well as other internal reporting. You’ll work with key internal stakeholders from across the business to gather all the information needed to help you communicate our achievements externally.

Demonstrating how Nationwide is a responsible business is becoming increasingly important to our members, colleagues, investors, and regulators. Having strong ESG ambitions and credentials that have a positive and meaningful impact on customers, communities and wider society is crucial for supporting Nationwide’s reputation and ESG ratings.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our Swindon office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

In this exciting role, you’ll be instrumental in developing our annual ESG Disclosures, communicating our progress in a clear, understandable, and impactful way. You’ll be working closely with stakeholders across the business to understand progress and develop the key messages to be communicated. You’ll also produce internal reporting on our progress towards our Mutual Good Commitments.

We’ll need you to maintain an awareness of external developments relating to ESG matters, including current and future regulatory and reporting activity, and understand what our competitors are doing and how this compares to Nationwide.

About you

We’re interested in people who enjoy looking ahead, thinking strategically, and seeing the bigger picture. We would like you to have/be:

  • An excellent communicator and narrator

  • Outstanding and proven writing skills to produce high-quality narrative fit for external publication. These skills will be used for drafting our external ESG disclosures

  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of being a socially responsible business and working knowledge within ESG

  • Proactive, willing to take ownership of yours and others’ work, and to drive it forward, at pace, to meet your goals

  • Comfortable in dealing with ambiguity and a self-starter, with the ability to tackle complex issues and undertake analysis on a broad range of topics

  • Adept at presenting your thoughts to internal stakeholders, including senior leaders, and engaging and responding to queries and challenges

  • Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and able to create high-quality materials to communicate sometimes complex ideas in a clear and engaging manner

  • A team player, with the ability and willingness to share your knowledge with colleagues within the business

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
