Job Summary-Proven expertise in designing and managing storage solutions utilizing Dell Avamar/PPDM/Data Domain, Dell PowerFlex/PowerMax, and NetApp SAN/NAS storage technologies.
-In-depth understanding of storage protocols, including FC, iSCSI, NFS, and CIFS/SMB, coupled with experience in architecting storage solutions for diverse workloads.
-Strong background in data deduplication, compression, encryption, and backup/recovery methodologies.
-Proficiency in virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud storage platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is highly desirable.
-Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The Senior Platform Engineer position at Cleveland Clinic presents an opportunity for seasoned professionals to assume a leadership role in shaping and maintaining enterprise infrastructure platform systems. As a senior member of the team, you will collaborate closely with managers, directors, application owners, project managers, and senior leadership to align platform and technical strategies with the organization's overarching business vision and objectives. Drawing on their extensive expertise, the Senior Platform Engineer will conduct thorough research, architect innovative solutions, and oversee the implementation of cutting-edge technologies. Your primary responsibility as a Senior Platform Engineer will be to ensure the stability, integrity, and optimal performance of enterprise server, storage, and data center infrastructure systems. Proactively monitoring, maintaining, and fine-tuning all hardware and operating systems will be central to the role, enabling seamless and efficient operation of critical IT infrastructure. As a trusted technical authority, this role will play a key role in driving the continuous improvement and advancement of our platform capabilities. Additionally, as a trusted technical authority and mentor, you will play a pivotal role in coaching and guiding junior Platform Engineers. Through your guidance and support, you will empower them to develop their skills, expand their knowledge, and contribute effectively to the team's success. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth, you will contribute to the overall strength and expertise of our platform engineering team.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, engineers and implements systems infrastructure.
  • Installs and maintains operating systems and related software.
  • Manages and monitors enterprise systems environment.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems in the systems environment.
  • Applies proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve issues.
  • Communicates goals and objectives with technical team in solving information system problems in conjunction with the manager.
  • Provides technical guidance for Platform Engineer I's and II's.
  • Assists in the development of strategic and tactical technical project plans in coordination with and support of the PMO.
  • Performs analysis, evaluation and justification for additional infrastructure platform software and hardware required to maintain optimal stability, uptime and growth of the enterprise infrastructure.
  • Leads proof of concept projects to investigate and analyze new technologies that may position the enterprise infrastructure platforms to grow and modernize in alignment with enterprise strategic plans.
  • Develops working relationship with server, storage, cloud and network software and hardware vendors, work groups and installation teams.
  • Leads development and implementation of infrastructure platform configuration standards, SOPs and guidelines according to industry and vendor best practices.
  • Assists Manager in preparation of the yearly departmental capital and operating budgets.
  • Recommends programs and plans for continuing education and training of team members.
  • Produces management reports and conducts presentations on capacity, performance, and system health.
  • Evaluates and prepares project plans for internal technical management projects and manages the execution of these plans.
  • Designs and implements disaster recovery plans in order to recover critical enterprise data and operational systems at a remote location.
  • Reviews and analyzes various environmental metric reports to monitor team performance and quality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience.

Languages:

  • English required.

Certifications:

  • Technical vendor hardware/software (Microsoft, Red Hat, Cisco, NetApp, Dell/EMC, etc.) certifications preferred.
  • For Information Technology Division caregivers, ITIL Foundations certification is required within 6 months of position start date.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • 10 years of enterprise level experience in a technical position responsible for implementing, configuring and managing enterprise server, storage or infrastructure environments.
  • 5 years of enterprise level experience in information systems design, including leading design implementations, required.
  • 2 years of demonstrable experience successfully architecting enterprise level infrastructure solutions.
  • Ability to analyze, coordinate, and manage multiple technologies and concepts effectively.
  • Understands the importance of customer service and how to effectively use available resources to service the Enterprise.
  • Must have the ability to work well with others and be able to express ideas and concepts clearly.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
