Senior Storage and Backup Engineer that configures and implements new HW in Datacenter and Remote Sites implement performance and Capacity Reporting and integrates with Monitoring tools for Alerting. Advanced understanding of Industry Best Practices for storage allocations, SAN design and zoning, performance tuning, as well as able to perform administration using CLI and scripts in addition to the UI Tools. Enterprise Backup Administrator that configures backup HW, familiar with rack layout, cabling and planning Network requirements. Knowledgeable in at least 2 Backup SW products, including creating SW packages from vendor images, performing new Installs and upgrades. Expert on Restore procedures, Disaster Recovery Planning and Testing. Designs, develops, configures, integrates, tests, and maintains existing Storage and Backup Infrastructure and Software implementations. Advanced understanding of NAS design, implementation and use-cases, and experiences managing NAS infrastructure. Understanding the application stack and systems solutions including OS, middleware, storage, and databases, through the integration of technical and business requirements. Applications and infrastructure solutions include both 3rd party software and internally developed applications and infrastructure. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, analysis of business requirements, creation of documentation, testing, and maintenance of applications, infrastructure, and information systems, including database management systems. Works within the Information Technology function, obtaining resources and working in support of objectives and strategies. Provides required documentation and participates in architecture reviews to ensure that the solutions comply with standards and use approved technologies.
Responsibilities:

Develop a scalable performance modeling strategy for use across a wide range of product lines.

Define and evangelize infrastructure-related optimizations and best practices to improve performance and reliability.

Steer the architectural choices towards the right solution to meet the performance targets.

Collect workload traces.
-
Performing system performance and functional analysis of new advanced architectures in comparison with existing paradigms.

Identify under/overutilization of hardware resources.
-
Identify bottlenecks in the fabric and memory hierarchy and quantify the performance gains from specific changes to the architecture or implementation.

Correlate performance modeling results to emulation results.
-
Demonstrated experience in CPU, Memory, Storage, or Fabric architectural performance modeling.

Strong understanding of traffic patterns, timings, priority classes, and dependencies. Strong understanding of performance bottleneck sources and mitigation techniques.

Participates as a member of and leads operations teams. Performs analysis of complex functional and business requirements. Prepares SOP and processes documents for others.

Designs and Implement solutions for Storage and Backup infrastructure services and applications. Participates in cross-functional teams. Lead design activities May provide mentoring and guidance to other peers and operations staff. Represents team to clients/customers.

Demonstrates technical leadership and exerts influence outside of the immediate team. Develops innovative team solutions to complex problems. Contributes to strategic direction for teams.

Applies in-depth or broad technical knowledge to provide maintenance solutions across one or more technology areas.

Performs solution design. Applies the company and 3rd party technologies and leads the design of highly complex infrastructure and software solutions.

Independently implements end-user or enterprise infrastructure or services of significant complexity.

Integrates technical expertise and business understanding to create superior solutions for the company and customers. Mentors and consults with team members and other organizations, customers, and vendors on complex issues.
Education and Experience Required:
-
Typically, a technical bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 10 years of related experience or a master’s degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
-
10 or more years of experience in performance/resiliency design, modeling, and evaluation.
-
10 or more years of experience in infrastructure-related optimizations and best practices to improve performance and reliability.
-
10 or more years of experience in identifying under/overutilization of hardware resources.
-
10 or more years of experience with HPE Storage, Brocade SAN, and Enterprise Backup products such as Netbackup, Commvault, Cohesity, Qumulo, etc..

Strong understanding of traffic patterns, timings, priority classes, and dependencies. Strong understanding of performance bottleneck sources and mitigation techniques.

Advanced understanding of HPE 3PAR, Alletra, Nimble storage HW, design and administration
-
Advanced understanding of Backup design, implementation, management restore and Disaster Recovery procedures for Netbackup (preferred) or other Enterprise products.

Advanced understanding of HPE StoreOnce or similar tapeless backup target.
-
Advanced understanding of NAS solutions and implementation, using Qumulo, Isilon or other Enterprise products.

Experience with ServiceNow CMDB, monitoring implementations for managed HW including SNMP, event, email and log-based alerting, and reporting for improving Operations and Service times.

Advanced understanding of SAP, Oracle RAC, Mongo, Maria, and Cassandra DB types and interactions relating to performance and OS/storage troubleshooting

Advanced understanding of Storage and Backup Reporting for Capacity Management, performance analysis, and SLA compliance.
