Position Summary:
Illumina is seeking an advanced-career User Experience (UX) Researcher to join our growing team of researchers and designers as we build best-in-class customer experiences across all Illumina hardware and software platforms and touchpoints. You are highly skilled with user centered design activities with the ability to drive large projects at a system-level, and have a strong emphasis on user research, human computer interaction and/or human system integration design. You are passionate about understanding the underlying personas, use cases, goals, and pain points of our customers, and use these insights to deliver quality products and experiences. You can translate business objectives and customer needs into stellar customer experiences, while resolving technical and team challenges with little oversight. You are capable of moving from exploratory and generative research to rapid iterative evaluation and benchmark testing, across multiple projects. You are extremely organized, able to see the big picture within projects while also keeping the details top of mind. As a member of the UX Research & Insights team, you will be a user advocate and key liaison between customers and internal teams.

Responsibilities:
- Partner with product managers, user interface designers and other key stakeholders to identify research needs
- Develop plans for user research activities across the product lifecycle from early stage design and product definition activities to post-release assessment
- Understand and incorporate business and technical requirements in research strategies and work with product teams to define user experience goals and metrics
- Design and conduct a variety of user research studies including contextual inquiry, user interviews, focus groups, task analysis, card sorting, expert reviews, design walkthroughs, formative and summative usability tests, and surveys etc.
- Synthesize research findings into meaningful themes and translate these data-driven insights into actionable product and/or process recommendations, and evangelize those findings through written reports and oral presentations with stakeholders across functions and divisions to support decision making process
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure all teams are aligned on key customer needs and drive innovations toward key needs and growth opportunities
- Utilize data and insights to inform future strategies and product plans
- Support the advancement of the user experience team’s qualitative and quantitative research toolbox by trying out new research techniques and deliverables and staying up to date on industry trends and methodologies to ensure Illumina is using the best-in-class research methodologies and frameworks to innovate

Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in user research with an emphasis on research related to software and hardware product design
- Master's in human computer interaction, psychology, anthropology or related field is required
- Excellent knowledge of all aspects of user-centered design process and the ability to apply them flexibly across a variety of project types; experience with quantitative and/or quantitative research methods is required
- Advanced experience with research methods such as Jobs to be done (JTBD) is a plus
- Working knowledge in regulatory practices and standards for medical devices preferred
- Extensive experience working with designers, product managers, engineers and/or clients in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
- Ability to rapidly revise and improvise research plans as needed; experience with agile methodologies a plus
- Experience within lab and remote user research tools such as UserZoom
- Proven project management skills, a track record of delivering commitments on time, and ability to prioritize time between multiple projects and stay flexible with changing schedules and projects while working well with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams
- Excellent analytical ability (especially regarding observation of user behavior), and strong oral and written communication skills

AMR US Remote: $167,200 - $250,800
The estimated base salary range for the Senior Staff User Experience Researcher role based in the United States of America is: $167,200 - $250,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
