Life at Plume
At Plume, we believe that technology isn't about moving faster, it's about making life’s moments better. Which is why we’ve built the world's first, and only, open and hardware-independent service delivery platform for smart homes, small businesses, enterprises, and beyond. Our SaaS platform uses WiFi, advanced AI, and machine learning to create the future of connected spaces—and human experiences—at massive scale.
We now deliver services to over 60 million locations globally and have managed over 3 billion devices on our platform. We’re expanding rapidly, pioneering a new category, and we achieved our Series F funding in just four years. Our customers include many of the world's largest Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who look to Plume to help them evolve their smart home offerings while gleaning insights from their own data.
With a bias for action and a love for being trailblazers, the team at Plume embodies a combination of relentless curiosity and imaginative innovation. We challenge ourselves to think in ways that other companies don't, work to do what should be done (rather than what can), and if we can’t do it exceptionally well, we don’t do it. It’s how we've assembled a team of world-class builders, thinkers, and doers. And it’s how we’re reinventing what’s possible every day.
What You Will Do:
• Architect and drive end-to-end delivery of the TR-369 (USP) cloud controller — including agent lifecycle management, data model design (Device:2/TR-181), MQTT/WebSocket transport, and secure session handling.
• Define and own the firmware architecture strategy across RDK-B, PrplOS, and OpenSync, ensuring coherence across chipset platforms and operator customizations.
• Lead the design and integration of WiFi 6/6E/7 features: band steering, roaming(802.11r/k/v), channel optimization, interference mitigation, and QoS policies.
• Establish engineering standards and best practices for cloud-to-CPE interactions —spanning provisioning, configuration management, telemetry, and OTA firmware updates.
• Collaborate with security teams to ensure end-to-end hardening across the TR-369 control plane, firmware supply chain, and device authentication (mTLS, X.509).
• Serve as the primary technical escalation point for complex integration issues involving chipset vendors, ODM/OEM partners, and service provider customizations.
• Conduct rigorous design reviews and drive consensus on architectural trade-offs across distributed teams.
• Mentor and grow senior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and pragmatic problem-solving.
• Partner with product and program management to translate roadmap requirements into clear engineering milestones with well-understood risk.
What We Are Looking For:
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in embedded systems, networking, or cloud-device platform engineering.
• Deep, hands-on expertise with TR-369 (USP) — agent/controller implementation, USP record handling, data model (TR-181/Device:2), and transports (MQTT, WebSocket, STOMP).
• Strong proficiency in OpenSync and one or more of RDK-B or PrplOS, including build systems (Yocto/BitBake, CMake), package management, and BSP integration.
• Solid grounding in WiFi protocols and 802.11 standards (802.11ax/be, 802.11r/k/v), RF fundamentals, and the Linux wireless stack (nl80211/cfg80211).
• Experience with cloud controller architectures at scale — microservices, event-driven systems, device shadow/state management, and fleet telemetry pipelines.
• Proficiency in C/C++ (firmware) and one or more of Go, Python, or Java (cloud services).
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, IPv6,TR-069/CWMP, and home gateway architectures.
• Proven track record of leading complex cross-functional technical initiatives from inception to production.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills — comfortable presenting architectural decisions to executive and technical audiences alike.
Preferred:
• Prior experience at a managed WiFi or CPE platform company
• Familiarity with Broadband Forum specifications beyond TR-369 (TR-069, TR-098, TR-143,TR-471).
• Experience with chipset vendor SDKs (Qualcomm, MediaTek, MaxLinear, Broadcom) and HAL abstraction layers.
• Knowledge of container/virtualization approaches on CPE (Docker on OpenWRT, LXC, RDK app framework).
• Experience contributing to formal standards bodies (Broadband Forum, Wi-Fi Alliance, IEEE 802.11 working groups).
About Plume
As the creator of the only open, hardware-independent, cloud-controlled experience platform for ISPs and their subscribers, Plume partners with over 400 ISP customers, including some of the world’s largest such as Comcast, Charter, Liberty Global, and J:COM.
Using OpenSync, the most widely supported open-source, silicon-to-cloud framework for smart spaces, Plume’s software-defined network allows ISPs to decouple their service offerings from hardware and rapidly curate and deliver new services over a multi-vendor, open-platform architecture.
Plume is an equal opportunity workplace that maintains a continuing policy of nondiscrimination in all employment practices and decisions, ensuring equal employment opportunities for all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, pregnancy, childbirth or related individual conditions, medical conditions (as defined by state law), military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law.
