About the Role:

The Insights Experience team at Productboard manages a platform that gathers user feedback from interviews, emails, support tickets, and direct customer responses. This platform is important for setting Productboard apart in its market by ensuring our customers can identify what to prioritize based on user needs.

As a Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack in this team, your job is to build and improve this platform. This is crucial for keeping us competitive and making sure our products meet our customers' needs. You'll do more than just code; you'll need to understand how your work helps our customers and influences our product direction.

You’ll provide technical leadership and empower the team members to grow professionally, setting high standards, sharing knowledge, and identifying future technical leaders. Your strategic influence will be instrumental in steering our technology stack and architecture, laying the groundwork for sustainable growth.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams and active participation in strategic planning are essential aspects of your role. You'll align technical decisions with our broader business objectives and proactively identify and address potential challenges. While developing our user-facing product, you'll exercise freedom and ownership in driving improvements to performance, scalability, and robustness, extending your impact across the entire tech stack.

This role is based in our downtown San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. Along with other San Francisco Bay employees, you’ll work from this office in person on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.  You will have the option to work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays.

What You'll Achieve:

  • Lead the team and support your colleagues. You'll help your teammates grow by sharing knowledge, giving feedback, and setting high standards for how we work. 
  • Play a key role in making critical decisions that shape our technology stack and architecture. 
  • Actively participate in the planning process, making sure that the technical decisions match the business goals. You'll work to identify and handle potential issues, plan for growth, and stay updated on new technologies to help us stay competitive.
  • You'll have a significant hand in building and refining our user-facing product. Your work will directly impact our users as you ship your contributions to production regularly, ensuring the product's performance, scalability, and robustness. 
  • Bring your creativity to resolve challenging technical issues and be involved in every phase of feature development – from concept to implementation and beyond.
  • Work alongside engineering leaders, product managers, designers, and other partners. 
  • Dive into customer experiences to gain valuable insights, driving user engagement and shaping new features. Your work will make our product more engaging and personalized, resonating with our users' needs.

Skills You'll Bring:

  • 8+ years of engineering experience, demonstrating a history of developing world-class product experiences within a team. 
  • Experience with breaking down complex problems into manageable solutions, considering both technical and business implications. 
  • Extensive experience in efficiently scaling UIs to accommodate rapid growth and changing demands, leveraging web technologies including HTML, CSS, TypeScript, and React. 
  • A thorough understanding of how different system components, from the user interface to the data model, work together. Your expertise goes beyond just technical skills, including experience in leading teams to effectively scale and optimize backend systems, especially to meet growing user demands.
  • Adaptability in learning and using different technologies, you are not bound by any single tool or language. 
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills where you excel at driving projects and coordinating with cross-functional teams, as well as, you are deeply invested in your team's growth and development. 

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with Node.js, Ruby, Kotlin, Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch, AWS.
  • We appreciate candidates who have passions beyond technology, whether it's in the arts, history, social sciences, or any other field.
  • Experience or a keen interest in the infrastructure aspects of building top-notch software products can be a significant asset.

Salary range: $191,400 - $253,600. The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only.  Multiple factors, such as your location, experience, depth of knowledge, as well as internal equity may be considered in extending an offer.
