About the Team & Role
At SailPoint, our Engineering team is where high-quality professional software engineering meets massive individual impact. We build enterprise-grade SaaS products on a mature, cloud-native, event-driven microservices architecture hosted in AWS.
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Staff Software Engineer with deep expertise in Java and modern distributed architectures. In this role, you will lead the technical design, development, and scaling of core microservices and intuitive full-stack web interfaces.
The Mission
To architect, scale, and modernize SailPoint's AWS cloud-native event-driven microservices and full-stack interfaces—driving system resilience, lowering latency, and setting core software craftsmanship and testing standards across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Microservice Architecture: Deliver efficient, maintainable, and highly reliable enterprise solutions and RESTful APIs in a Java and AWS environment.
- Full-Stack Implementation: Design and build intuitive, responsive web UIs using JavaScript (ES6+), React, Angular, or ExtJS that integrate seamlessly with backend object models.
- Production Excellence: Instrument code to collect production performance telemetry and proactively optimize distributed systems for scale and low latency.
- Testing & Quality Assurance: Maximize automated test coverage (unit, integration, end-to-end) across the entire stack to ensure seamless continuous delivery.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Drive architecture discussions, lead comprehensive code reviews, provide accurate sizing for product requirements, and mentor peers across the engineering org.
Requirements
- 14+ years of professional software development experience delivering scalable, enterprise-grade SaaS applications.
- Deep Java Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Java, object-oriented analysis, design patterns, and multithreaded systems.
- Full-Stack Proficiency: Strong understanding of modern JavaScript frameworks (such as React, Angular, or Backbone), ES5 to ES6+, HTML5, and CSS.
- Distributed Systems Knowledge: Proven experience building and consuming RESTful APIs, decoupled microservices, and distributed backend components.
- Testing Discipline: Demonstrated commitment to automated testing, code coverage metrics, and continuous deployment workflows.
- Communication & Leadership: Strong cross-functional communication skills with the ability to articulate technical tradeoffs to product managers, UX designers, and senior leadership.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
What You Will Achieve (Year 1 Milestones)
Timeline / Milestone & Expected Impact

First 60 Days : Ship Core Microservices & UI: Design and deploy high-throughput Java REST microservices to production and integrate responsive UI workflows using modern JavaScript frameworks.
First 90 Days : Elevate Quality & CI/CD: Establish automated unit, integration, and E2E testing pipelines with high code coverage, ensuring zero critical regressions and rock-solid continuous delivery.
Months 4–12 : Drive Architectural Evolution: Lead multi-quarter architectural epics, mentor senior engineers, and optimize distributed event streams and data pipelines for enterprise scale.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud-native architectures (e.g., ECS, EKS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB).
- Experience with Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Exposure to Big Data, Data Pipelines, or Machine Learning product ecosystems.
- Experience instrumenting distributed tracing, observability, and APM tools (e.g., Datadog, CloudWatch, Prometheus).
