Summary Generated by Built In

Flex is a growth-stage, NYC headquartered FinTech company that is creating the best rent payment experience. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2025 and paying rent on time is expensive, inflexible, and difficult. We’re here to change that! Flex enables our users to pay rent throughout the month on a schedule that better fits their finances and budget. Our mission is to empower as many renters as possible with flexibility over their most significant recurring expense. After deliberately keeping a stealth profile as we built up unprecedented investor support and an enthusiastic user base, we are looking for motivated individuals to help us keep our mission growing. Will you be a part of the team?

About the role

As a Senior Staff Product Designer at Flex you’ll help design the future of our business! We’re looking for an incredibly creative, detail-oriented designer who will define where the consumer product experience is headed. You’ll collaborate with leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to guide our product and design strategy. You’ll design a vision for where our product is headed by bringing business opportunities and customer insights to life through intuitive new features and evolutions to our design language and interaction patterns. You’ll set the standard for what exceptional design looks like by holding a high bar for everything you do. You’ll help set the tone for what IC design leadership at Flex looks like by being a vocal advocate for our customers to help shift our maturing business from one focused on speed and delivery into one focused on delivering truly delightful and supportive financial products. As we seek to expand our product to meet the needs of new demographics and verticals, our approach to product design and our brand expression will be key differentiators to help our business grow.

This is a hybrid position with on-site expectations of 3 days per week in our New York Headquarters. For candidates outside of the NY/NJ area, you may be eligible for our relocation assistance program.

What you’ll do
  • Design vision prototypes to bring to life the future of our products tied to the company strategy and long term plans
  • Lead and work alongside other designers to drive every aspect of your design process from beginning to end, leading discovery, ideation, testing, visual design, and implementation.
  • Craft innovative solutions for product opportunities that have little or no precedent in the existing market
  • Solicit feedback from and provide feedback to designers and collaborators in order to set the bar for quality and craft in all of our product and design work
  • Collaborate closely with other product leaders, designers, product managers, software engineers and stakeholders to ensure your vision becomes a reality
  • Work with leaders to align and connect multiple teams to deliver on your vision and achieve business goals
  • Influence design and product decisions by staying in touch with how the design industry and UX trends are evolving
  • Test folding AI into your design process and UX strategy to build for the future
  • Constantly reinforce our Flex principles and culture through your own behaviors and actions
Key qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in a product design leadership role, or operating as a player/coach
  • Extensive experience designing and shipping consumer-facing native digital products, ideally in-house (not just as a consultant or at an agency)
  • Exposure to and understanding of what it takes to build and maintain a scaled, mature design system
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to understand complex technical and product challenges and translate them into compelling, clear designs
  • Ability to use both qualitative and quantitative insights to develop designs tied to a customer-centered strategy
  • Ability to give take and give direction throughout each stage of the design process, from research to concepting to refinement and prototyping
  • Demonstrated aptitude for getting things done to make your team successful – wearing several different hats when necessary
  • Comfort with ambiguous problems
  • Motivation to be a self-starter
  • Passion for financial products and improving people’s financial lives
  • Nice-to-have: experience designing and building Fintech products
  • A portfolio of work detailing your contributions to shipped solutions

The compensation range for this role will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and Flex's internal leveling guidelines and benchmarks. For working locations in NY/NJ/CA, the base salary pay range will be $231,000 - $253,000.
