Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
At Micron-Boise, ID, we are undergoing a historic $15 billion investment in semiconductor manufacturing; construction began in early 2023, with DRAM production slated for the second half of the decade.
As a leader in the semiconductor industry, we build solutions that inspire and transform technology. With plans to invest more than $150 billion globally over the next decade in leading-edge manufacturing, we are looking for passionate people to join our Boise expansion team and contribute to the growth and innovation of the semiconductor industry.
About the Role
The Process Quality Engineering team is seeking a highly experienced Contamination Control Engineer to join our world-class engineering organization. The successful candidate will leverage expertise in surface and airborne particulates, metallic contamination, and airborne molecular contamination (AMC), along with semiconductor process technology, analytical chemistry, instrumentation (e.g., mass spectrometry), and sampling theory to drive Fab quality improvements. Key responsibilities include evaluating, selecting, maintaining, and calibrating analytical equipment to monitor contamination, enabling the expansion and optimization of real-time cleanroom and wafer environment monitoring systems. This role also involves recommending and conducting tests on materials and non-process chemicals entering the cleanroom, as well as designing predictive tests to address contamination challenges. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with process development and integration engineers to assess and mitigate risks associated with introducing exotic materials into wafer processing environments.
Qualifications:
Minimum Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- 3-7 years of experience working as a Contamination Control Engineer.
- Experience in Cleanroom Contamination Control protocols including Airborne Molecular Contamination (AMC) monitoring, AMC testing, cleanroom air supply systems, facilities systems, and analytical testing.
- Deep knowledge of analytical instrumentation used in Fab monitoring (Ion Mobility Spectrometry, UV Fluorescence, Chemiluminescence, Ion-Chromatography, VPD etc.) including strengths, limitations, and cross-sensitivities. Familiarity with precision, accuracy, resolution, detection limits, and linearity.
- Extensive experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC), including real-time contamination data reporting, setup, review, and analysis, with actionable recommendations for improvement. Highly skilled in JMP for advanced data visualization and analytics.
- Collaborate with peers locally and globally to align on Best Known Methods (BKMs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain or improve fab quality. Coordinate and lead meetings, ensuring follow-up actions are tracked and completed.
- Lead the development of engineering solutions and strategies to detect, reduce, eliminate, and control contamination hazards at points of control, entry, use, and process.
- Systematically review and test contamination hazards to assess risk and implement mitigation strategies for new materials, non-process chemicals, and exotic substances entering the cleanroom, as well as for activities and behaviors occurring within the cleanroom.
- Strong commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to tackle complex challenges and address root causes effectively.
Preferred:
- 10+ years in the semiconductor HVM Fab as a Contamination Control Engineer.
