DESCRIPTION

Senior Staff Deepwater Production Geoscientist/Modeler is based in Houston and reports to the Director of Geoscience – Development. This role maximizes the value of discovered or producing deepwater assets, playing a critical role in converting subsurface discoveries into producing fields and optimizing recovery in producing fields by integrating seismic, petrophysics, core, and engineering data to create/refine reservoir models and optimize well placement. This position will use advanced software for seismic interpretation, attribute analysis, and 3D modeling, while mentoring junior staff and supporting drilling operations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Reservoir Characterization: Generate high-quality, detailed descriptions of reservoirs using 3D seismic interpretation, well log analysis, biostratigraphic data, and geophysical attribute analysis.  Define optimal reservoir zonation and layering schemes using advanced sequence stratigraphy and flow unit architecture
  • Subsurface Modeling: Build and update detailed 3D static reservoir models to evaluate field development options, determine volumes, assess connectivity, and monitor production performance to maximize EUR by identifying additional locations or modifying future well locations or recompletion timing. Work closely with reservoir and production engineers to integrate dynamic production and pressure performance into static and dynamic models
  • Well Planning & Execution: Collaborate with drilling engineers to plan new well locations and trajectories, provide geological oversight during drilling operations, and post drill reserve and model updates
  • Uncertainty Management: Accurately identify and quantify subsurface uncertainties and risks, developing sensitivity scenarios to support economic evaluations of development projects
  • Operational Support: Provide real-time operational geology support during well construction, integrating LWD (Logging While Drilling), mudlogging, and wireline data to update models
  • Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior geoscientists, fostering technical development within the team

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • 15+ years’ experience at an Upstream E&P company, with a heavy emphasis on successful appraisal/development projects in deepwater environments
  • Gulf of America experience is required
  • Master’s or PHD Degree in Geology/Geophysics

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Must have firm understanding of geophysical concepts
  • Strong understanding of deepwater GOA depositional systems
  • Strong skills in sequence stratigraphy and deep water depositional environments, geophysical attributes and static model building
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate log-to-core, seismic, and dynamic data to refine geological concepts and subsurface uncertainty characterization
  • Proven ability to integrate geology, geophysics, petrophysics, and reservoir engineering into cohesive subsurface models
  • Experience building static reservoir models desired
  • Able to organize and prioritize a diverse and heavy workload for a team
  • Creates strong work relationships with vendors, contractors, and internal staff
