About this role
As Scribe’s first Senior Staff Backend Engineer, you will:
- Lead Backend Technical Direction: Define and drive the architecture and best practices across Scribe’s backend systems. You’ll be the go-to expert for building robust, scalable, and high-performance web services using Python, Node, and Go.
- Mentor and Inspire: Guide and mentor engineers, championing a culture of technical excellence and impact. Help shape the team’s growth through code reviews, technical workshops, and one-on-one mentorship.
- Drive Impact: Own key initiatives that tie directly to company growth and user value. Advocate for the user to drive measurable improvements in the product, leveraging analytics and user feedback.
- Co-Author Our Product: Work closely with product managers, designers, and backend teams to translate complex user needs into delightful and accessible user experiences. Your input will be instrumental in aligning product vision with technical strategy.
You could be a great fit if
- You have 12+ years of engineering experience
- You have 8+ years of backend development experience
- You have extensive experience with Python
- You have played a significant part in setting the standards for a growing engineering team
- Some of your superpowers are bringing people together, encouraging them to express their viewpoints, and reaching consensus
- You believe that “if can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”
Bonus
- Experience with Python Django (not required, but a big plus)
- Startup experience (not required, but we build and move fast!)

Compensation
$200,000 - $285,000 base + equity + benefits
