The Hartford currently has an in-house REMOTE opportunity for a Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases primarily in Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
This position is an ideal fit for an experienced Attorney with meaningful trial and litigation experience in Premises Liability as well as Commercial and Personal Motor Vehicle Accident cases. The Senior Staff Attorney will work diligently to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation. In this position the attorney reports to the Managing Attorney. The ideal candidate is an experienced Attorney with demonstrated trial experience and the ability to handle cases independently from inception through trial. The successful candidate will be one who wishes to practice in a collegial firm with other experienced litigators.
RESPONSBILITIES:
• Handle moderately complex and moderately high exposure litigation
• Analyze intricate substantive and procedural legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of a variety of clients
• Prepare pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with minimal supervision because of level of experience and expertise
• Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims partners on legal and factual issues in a technology driven environment
• Communicate respectfully with the Court, clients, claims partners, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures and professional standards.
• Provide for the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases
• Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings and alternative dispute resolutions
• Provide opinions to Managing Attorney, Assistant Managing Attorney, staff, clients and claims customers. Attend continuing legal education seminars to maintain high level of professional expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school and licensed to practice in New York State required. Admitted to practice in federal courts is a plus!
• Knowledge of area courts
• Member in good standing of NY Bar Association
• Minimum of 7 years insurance defense legal experience
• Strong legal research and writing skills
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are a must
• Strong communication, computer and technological skills and the ability to quickly leverage new A.I. tools
• Demonstrated expertise and familiarity in the handling of claim cases and litigation
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
