The Hartford currently has an in-house opportunity for a Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases throughout South Louisiana, mostly in the greater New Orleans, LA area but also in surrounding regions. We are looking for a colleague with significant trial and litigation experience in Commercial and Personal Automobile accidents, Commercial General Liability, including Premises Liability, Products Liability and Construction Site accidents. The Senior Staff Attorney will strive to deliver the best possible results in pending litigation. In this position the attorney reports to the Staff Legal Managing Attorney.
The Attorney will work remotely, and make appearances throughout Louisiana, focusing on New Orleans and the surrounding regions.

RESPONSBILITIES:

• Handle complex and high exposure litigation.

• Analyze intricate substantive and procedural legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.

• Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision because of level of experience and expertise.

• Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues in a technology driven environment.

• Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures.

• Provide for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.

• Participate in site and product inspections, including retaining and engaging with expert witnesses.

• Independently prepare, present and defend witnesses at depositions.

• Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings and mediations.

• Research, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.

• Provide damages and liability opinions to Managing Attorney, clients and claims customers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school and license to practice in Louisiana and local federal courts.

• Knowledge of Louisiana courts with available transportation.

• Member in good standing of all Louisiana State and Federal Courts and the Louisiana Bar Association.

• 7+ years of legal practice experience handling tort defense cases.

• Documented first chair jury trial/appellate expertise.

• Strong legal research and writing skills.

• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are a must.

• Strong communication, computer and technological skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.

• Demonstrated expertise and familiarity in the handling of claim cases and litigation.

WHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME? 
This position is a remote work position; the selected candidate will travel for appearances throughout Louisiana, focusing on New Orleans and the surrounding regions.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
