SUMMARY
Housing Trust Group is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to support the Corporate Accounting function. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing account reconciliations, supporting audits and tax engagements, and assisting with financial reporting and analysis for corporate entities.
The Senior Staff Accountant plays a key role in the monthly close process, strengthening internal controls, improving accounting processes, and providing accurate financial information that supports management decision-making. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, adaptable, and collaborative, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
This position provides significant exposure to corporate accounting, financial reporting, audits, taxation, and process improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and record accounting entries related to assigned areas and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial statements and account balances.
- Lead assigned components of the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate completion of journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting deliverables.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for assigned corporate entities.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations and supporting schedules as part of the month-end close process.
- Prepare monthly variance analyses and explanations for significant fluctuations between actual results, budget, and prior periods.
- Support accounts payable activities to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of invoice processing.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations of developer fees, management fees, construction fees, and other intercompany transactions.
- Assist with the processing and accounting of cash distributions to partners and ownership groups.
- Prepare schedules, workpapers, and documentation required for annual audits, tax returns, lender reporting, and other compliance requirements.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for audit and tax requests, coordinating deliverables, maintaining status trackers, and ensuring timely completion of all requests.
- Communicate with external auditors, tax advisors, consultants, lenders, and investors as required.
- Partner with property, development, and corporate teams to research, reconcile, and resolve accounting issues, audit findings, and information requests.
- Drive continuous process improvement by evaluating existing workflows, standardizing procedures, strengthening internal controls, and implementing scalable accounting processes.
- Participate in special projects and other assignments as requested by management.
EDUCATION (OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE)
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- CPA is preferred but not required.
- 5+ years of work experience in accounting (public/private mix preferred).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
- Experience with Yardi Voyager or comparable ERP/accounting systems.
- Real estate, development, construction, or property management accounting experience preferred.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some lifting (up to 10lbs), walking, bending and standing for short periods of time may be necessary.
