New Supplier Development & Technical Onboarding
Serve as the primary technical interface and resident expert at new supplier sites during the launch and qualification phases of new programmes.
Lead on-site technical readiness assessments and gap analyses against IATF 16949, APQP, and customer-specific requirements (CSRs).
Drive PPAP submission quality by coaching suppliers through Part Submission Warrant (PSW), process flow, PFMEA, control plans, and MSA.
Establish and validate manufacturing process capability (Cpk/Ppk) and oversee first-off and first-article inspection activities.
Develop and execute structured supplier onboarding programmes aligned to internal quality gates and product launch milestones.
Hands-On Technical Training & Knowledge Transfer
Deliver applied, shop-floor-based training in core automotive quality systems: APQP, FMEA (AIAG-VDA), Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and 8D problem-solving.
Train supplier personnel in product-specific technical requirements including drawing interpretation, GD&T, material specifications, and functional performance criteria.
Design and facilitate workshops tailored to the supplier's technology base — with particular depth in electronics and PCBA: SMT processes, soldering quality, IPC standards, AOI/AXI interpretation, and ESD control.
Mentor supplier quality engineers and technicians in root cause analysis tools (Ishikawa, 5-Why, Is/Is-Not, Shainin) and corrective action disciplines.
Build internal supplier capability in layered process audits (LPA) and mistake-proofing (poka-yoke) methodologies.
Electronics & PCBA Technical Specialisation
Provide expert technical oversight at electronics and PCBA suppliers covering SMT, wave soldering, selective soldering, and through-hole assembly processes.
Assess and validate soldering quality against IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) and IPC-J-STD-001 standards; coach supplier inspection teams in correct application.
Evaluate bare PCB suppliers for compliance with IPC-6012 / IPC-A-600 and review first article inspection of boards including impedance, via integrity, and surface finish.
Review and validate electronic PFMEA and control plans for critical failure modes: solder bridges, opens, tombstoning, cold joints, pad cratering, and component orientation.
Support qualification of new solder pastes, fluxes, and process chemistries; oversee SPC implementation on key process parameters (reflow profile, paste deposit, AOI escape rate).
Drive appropriate use of automated optical inspection (AOI), automated X-ray inspection (AXI/3D-CT), and in-circuit test (ICT) within supplier quality gates.
Assess electrostatic discharge (ESD) controls, traceability, and handling procedures in line with ANSI/ESD S20.20 requirements.
Evaluate conformal coating processes (acrylic, silicone, polyurethane) for automotive environmental requirements including humidity, thermal cycling, and vibration resistance.
Review component qualification evidence and manage supplier response to obsolescence, counterfeiting risk (AS6081), and counterfeit avoidance controls.
Support suppliers in establishing or strengthening quality management systems compliant with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.
Conduct and lead formal second-party audits including System, Process, and Product audits with documented findings and corrective action follow-through.
Identify systemic process risks and develop targeted improvement plans using lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives at supplier sites using structured problem-solving and data-driven approaches.
Stakeholder Interface & Reporting
Act as the primary liaison between the supplier site team and internal commodity, programme, and engineering stakeholders.
Provide structured written progress reports, site visit summaries, and supplier scorecards to SQA leadership.
Escalate product or process concerns with urgency and recommended containment actions.
Participate in cross-functional team (CFT) reviews, supplier business reviews, and APQP gate reviews.
