Senior Specialist Engineer – Application ManagementRole Overview

The Senior Specialist Engineer, Application Management, is a member of the LSEG Post Trade Calypso Production Support team responsible for Level 2 support of production environments and selected non-production environments.

The role supports application stability, operational readiness, release implementation, infrastructure support, and continuous service improvement across development, testing, UAT, member testing, and production environments. The successful candidate will drive resilient, high-performing services while supporting change delivery throughout the application lifecycle.

The position operates within a shift-based support model aligned to UK business requirements. Participation in on-call rotations, out-of-hours support, weekend maintenance activities, and disaster recovery exercises is expected.

This role works closely with Business and technology partners to investigate issues, support releases, implement enhancements, and drive operational resilience.

Key Responsibilities

Incident and Problem Management

  • Investigate, analyse, and resolve application incidents and problems.
  • Assess infrastructure-related issues and settle potential impact on applications.
  • Implement approved changes in alignment with established governance and operational controls.
  • Communicate status updates to relevant business and technology partners.
  • Document investigation progress, actions, and outcomes in ServiceNow.
  • Follow established incident and problem management processes.
  • Supervise support queues and proactive alerts.
  • Identifying Toils and take ownership for ensuring reduction if needed

Application Support, Maintenance, and Enhancements

  • Supervise application health and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Review and enhance monitoring and alerting capabilities.
  • Analyze recurring issues and implement sustainable solutions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Support implementation of application fixes and minor enhancements.
  • Maintain source code repositories where applicable.
  • Update operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
  • Coordinate and implement release planning, testing, and deployment activities across application environments
  • Apply ITIL-aligned practices and LSEG standards to deliver reliable, efficient, and resilient to support services
  • Develop and maintain operational metrics and reporting.

Business and Technology Partner Engagement

  • Collaborate efficiently with business users and technology teams during investigations and service restoration activities.
  • Provide clear and timely communication regarding incidents, risks, and operational status.
  • Drive cross-service initiatives that enhance service reliability, efficiency, and operational excellence.

Shift and Operational Support

  • Participate in rotating shift schedules, including morning, day, and night shifts based on business requirements.
  • Participate in on-call and out-of-hours support rotations.
  • Support planned maintenance, releases, and infrastructure activities outside standard business hours where required.
  • Participate in and implement disaster recovery testing and operational readiness exercises.
  • We are working on Hybrid (3days a week from office) mode

Project and Change Support

  • Support project activities and deliver assigned technical requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise during design, implementation, and issue resolution activities.
  • Serve as a domain Specialist for supported applications and associated infrastructure components.

Release and Quality Assurance Support

  • Review release packages and deployment plans prior to implementation.
  • Provide operational and production support perspectives during change assessments.
  • Identify risks and recommend improvements to deployment and support processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Required Skills and Experience

Application Support & Operations

  • Experience supporting Calypso applications within a Capital Markets or Investment Banking environment, including End-of-Day (EOD), Start-of-Day (SOD), and Intraday processing.
  • Keen understanding of instruments like Repos, Bonds, Cash Products, trade lifecycle events, and post-trade processing workflows is required.
  • Deep understanding of the trade lifecycle, including trade integration, confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, and reporting processes
  • Experience in application support, infrastructure support, system administration, or related operational roles.
  • Ability to analyse production issues from both technical and business perspectives and assess downstream impacts on trading, clearing, and settlement functions.
  • Experience working with Front Office, Middle Office, Back Office, Operations, and Business Users in a financial markets environment.
  • Desirable:
    • Exposure to market infrastructure providers, clearing houses, custodians, or central securities depositories.
    • Knowledge of regulatory reporting and settlement obligations within capital markets environments.

Operating Systems & Infrastructure

  • Linux/UNIX administration skills.
  • Exposure to AWS or other cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of Windows directory and permissions management.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, web servers, connectivity diagnosis, and firewall analysis.

Databases

  • Must have strong Oracle Database and SQL skills
  • Snowflake
  • PostgreSQL

Middleware & Application Platforms.

  • Experience supporting IBM MQ environments.

Automation & Scripting

  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Shell scripting, Python, or similar technologies.

Monitoring & Observability

  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability tools such as:
    • Datadog
    • AWS CloudWatch

DevOps & Delivery Tools

  • Experience using version control systems such as Bitbucket, Git
  • Exposure to CI/CD and automation tools (e.g., Gitlab

Scheduling Tools

  • Must have exposure to scheduling tools like Control-M
