We are seeking an experienced software engineer who will bridge the gap between the NVIDIA Enterprise Experience (NVEX) support team and the various Software Development groups. We are looking for a highly technical candidate who can both triage sophisticated customer hardware and network issues as well as develop key software improvements and tools for the NVIDIA’s Ethernet switch systems. We need to see a deep software development background in the networking industry either for a network hardware manufacturer or software integrator. The candidate must have a confirmed grasp of in-field, production network operations and have experience in root-causing customer-found issues down to the source code level. Breadth of experience is key in network operating systems (NOS), Linux kernel drivers and internals, network switch hardware, modern control plane protocols, and infrastructure management technologies. IPC, race conditions, finite state machines, event processing loops, queue management, network traffic and flow analysis, and software design gaps will be common areas of focus.
Along with the NVEX responsibilities, the candidate will also get to contribute to the products they support as a developer embedded with one of the various software engineering teams. You can make a difference in both the current customer experience as well as the product future! The individual will get to work across many NVIDIA teams, so superb interpersonal and communication skills are critical. You must be able to understand, root cause, and resolve sophisticated issues, and provide detailed explanations of what you find. If you have a real passion for technology, and you are interested in a role that you can make a difference in and contribute at all different levels, this may be a phenomenal position for you. This escalation team supports and develops NVIDIA’s network switch operating systems including SONiC and Cumulus Linux.
What you'll be doing:
-
Take ownership and drive escalated customer issues with NVIDIA solution deployments from inception to resolution, with a focus on the SONiC network operating system running on NVIDIA hardware
-
Work with NVIDIA Enterprise customers and internal users to improve the availability, reliability, and overall experience of working with NVIDIA solutions
-
Develop features and tools as part of solution engineering efforts to support all Enterprise Service offerings
-
Bring independent analysis, communication, and problem-solving to customer experience
-
Collaborate with engineering to document, recreate and solve issues
-
Author and incorporate technical solutions into our knowledge base
What we need to see:
-
BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
-
At least 5 years experience developing with C for network equipment or infrastructure
-
At least 5 years experience providing direct customer-facing support or within the support escalation path
-
Experience with the SONiC network operating system
-
Expertise in Linux and Unix-type OSes at the driver, system, and user-space layers running on enterprise network equipment
-
Proven ability to deeply analyze and develop Layer 1 / IP / Layer 2 switching / Layer 3 routing networking protocols (ARP, STP, LACP, MLAG, IGMP, PIM, BGP, OSPF)
-
Experience analyzing and debugging low level software components including network drivers, switch ASIC control software, and platform APIs
-
Excellent communication, verbal and written English skills
-
Intellectual curiosity, positive attitude, flexibility, analytical ability, self-motivation, and team-oriented
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
-
Experience with Cumulus Linux
-
Experience developing software for SONiC or other network operating system
-
Working knowledge of common north bound interfaces used for network telemetry and provisioning (gNMI, Prometheus, SNMP, NETCONF, etc)
-
Expertise in network overlay technologies (VXLAN, EVPN)
-
Familiarity with lab equipment and traffic generators/analyzers (Spirent, IXIA, etc)

What We Do
NVIDIA’s invention of the GPU in 1999 sparked the growth of the PC gaming market, redefined modern computer graphics, and revolutionized parallel computing. More recently, GPU deep learning ignited modern AI — the next era of computing — with the GPU acting as the brain of computers, robots, and self-driving cars that can perceive and understand the world. Today, NVIDIA is increasingly known as “the AI computing company.”
