The Role
This role is key to enabling the organisation’s strategic goals by providing high-quality, business focussed legal advice and support across a broad spectrum of commercial and corporate matters. Reporting to the Head of Commercial, Legal, you will work closely with the Legal Department leadership, to deliver clear, pragmatic advice on a range of legal matters across all areas of the organisation. You will partner with internal teams and senior stakeholders to drive business outcomes, anticipate and manage legal risk, and contribute to shaping a strong, pro-active in-house legal function.
Principal Accountabilities
Provide accurate, practical and timely legal advice on a broad range of matters, including [commercial contracts, corporate transactions, regulatory compliance (UK and overseas)]
Work collaboratively with senior leadership and other stakeholders across all functions to help deliver the Lloyd’s Strategy and provide legal and regulatory advice from an early stage or when requested, in projects and programmes
Identify, monitor, and mitigate legal risks associated with Lloyd’s operations
Communicate complex legal issues clearly and effectively to stakeholders across all levels
Develop and maintain legal resources, including templates and guidance documents, to improve efficiency and support the wider organisation
Manage multiple workstreams and priorities, ensuring timely delivery
Instruct and manage relationships with external legal counsel (where appropriate), ensuring cost-effective and high-quality support when specialist advance is required
Drive continuous improvement within the Legal team by constructively challenging existing ways of working, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, and removing operational friction
Contribute to an open and transparent culture of risk management and inclusive leadership

An assured self-starter with leadership capability, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Strong commercial acumen, with a solution-oriented approach to legal advice
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal audiences

Strong drafting skills across all types of legal documentation and the ability to create and deliver clear and concise written or verbal advice and to advise others on doing so
Strong negotiation skills with the ability to lead contract negotiations with confidence, securing commercially sound outcomes while maintaining strong professional relationships
Articulate, honest and authoritative in finding the right style and words to influence, challenge or motivate others
Inquisitive and testing; asks the right questions in the correct circumstances and then (if appropriate) acts on that information
Prepared to be the bearer of unwelcome or uncomfortable news with clarity and to seek to find solutions
Anticipates legal and regulatory challenges and opportunities and provides forward looking solutions
Analyses and finds opportunities to improve processes by identifying practical enhancements that increase efficiency and consistency
