The Role
Company Overview

At Motorola Solutions, we believe that everything starts with our people. We’re a global close-knit community, united by the relentless pursuit to help keep people safer everywhere. Our critical communications, video security and command center technologies support public safety agencies and enterprises alike, enabling the coordination that’s critical for safer communities, safer schools, safer hospitals and safer businesses. Connect with a career that matters, and help us build a safer future.

Department Overview
Blue Eye Monitoring has a unique approach to providing security. We use our proprietary Blackbox technology to turn your existing camera network into an active security system. Your cameras become the sensors and our AI software embedded inside the Blackbox watches the property for threats while you are away. Once detected, an alarm is immediately sent to our command center where our highly trained Video Surveillance Technicians (VSTs) take over. Now a live person sees the property in real time to assess the situation and take appropriate action. Appropriate responses may be a verbal warning over the loudspeaker, calling the police or welcoming a resident home for the evening. Our approach of using both artificial and human intelligence allows for a safe and comfortable solution and all of this is done utilizing the cameras you already have installed.
Blue Eye was acquired by Motorola Solutions in November 2025.
Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Test Engineer / Test Team Lead to own and elevate software quality across all Blue Eye products. This role is responsible for establishing the right testing strategy, processes, and tooling, and for embedding automated tests into our delivery pipelines so releases to Azure can ship quickly with high confidence.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can assess an existing system, identify quality risks, and implement pragmatic testing practices that scale. You will lead by doing: writing tests, shaping architecture for testability, and integrating quality gates directly into CI/CD as infrastructure is provisioned and updated with Terraform.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Quality Ownership

  • End-to-End Ownership: Own quality across all products, including third-party integrations (REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven pipelines), the AIPX SOC application, and the customer/partner portal.

  • Unified Strategy: Establish a testing strategy spanning API, integration, system, and UI layers, aligned with a two-week sprint release cadence.

  • Standards & Governance: Define release readiness criteria and "Definition of Done" standards that include clear test automation expectations.

  • Mentorship & Growth: Mentor engineers on writing testable code, lead incident reviews to prevent regressions, and grow the test function over time through hiring and coaching.

Automation & CI/CD Integration

  • Suite Maintenance: Build and maintain robust automated test suites using Cypress for UI/E2E and API-level tests for backend services.

  • Pipeline Integration: Embed tests into CI/CD pipelines with specific gates:

    • PR Level: Fast feedback, smoke, and contract checks.

    • Merge/Scheduled: Broad regression suites.

  • Result Management: Standardize deterministic test patterns, publish actionable artifacts, and implement logic for flaky-test handling.

Cloud & Platform Collaboration

  • Infra-as-Code Partnership: Partner with DevOps/Platform engineering to ensure tests run reliably in Azure environments managed via Terraform.

  • Environment Orchestration: Oversee the provisioning and teardown of ephemeral or short-lived test environments.

  • Security & Data: Ensure the safe use of test data, secrets, and secure variables (e.g., Key Vault) across Dev, Staging, and Production.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 7+ years of professional experience in software testing, quality engineering, or test automation.

  • Leadership: Proven experience establishing or rebuilding testing processes in a complex platform.

  • Automation Mastery: Strong hands-on experience with Cypress and modern automated testing frameworks.

  • Cloud & DevOps: Demonstrated experience plugging tests into CI/CD with meaningful quality gates; comfortable collaborating with infrastructure teams in cloud environments.

  • Systems Knowledge: Solid understanding of distributed systems, integration points, and asynchronous/event-driven workflows.

  • Communication: Ability to influence engineering teams through collaboration and clear technical communication.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Terraform-based deployments and test environment provisioning patterns.

  • Experience testing event-driven architectures (Azure Event Hub, Event Grid, Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).

  • Familiarity with Azure services (App Services, AKS, Functions, Key Vault).

  • Exposure to real-time or video-centric systems, including WebRTC.

  • Familiarity with observability and diagnostics tooling (Application Insights, Grafana, Prometheus).

  • Ideal candidate will be based near our HQ in Salt Lake City; We are willing to consider remote candidates if qualifications are met.

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)
  • Automated Gates: CI/CD pipelines consistently running the right tests at the right stages (PR, Staging, and Release gates).

  • Cloud Strategy: A sustainable approach to provisioning test environments in Azure alongside Terraform workflows.

  • Risk Mitigation: High-risk workflows across integrations, AIPX, and the customer portal are fully covered by automation.

  • Culture Shift: Engineers contribute to tests as a standard part of feature delivery, resulting in fewer production regressions.

What We Offer
  • Impact: Direct ownership and high visibility in a mission-critical platform.

  • Leadership: A role where you directly influence engineering practices and delivery quality.

  • Collaboration: A senior, high-ownership engineering culture.

  • Flexibility: A flexible, remote-friendly work environment.
