In this position you will be part of Illumina’s mission by supporting our manufacturing software as part of a global agile software team. You will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our manufacturing software, by designing, drafting, and executing software test protocols. In addition, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated test scripts to improve our regression testing capabilities. Your expertise in test automation tools and frameworks will be instrumental in driving efficiency and effectiveness in our testing process. You will also grow your technical and collaboration skills, while engaging deeply with multidisciplinary teams of business analysts, software developers, process engineers, manufacturing personnel, and other business stakeholders.
Position Responsibilities:
- Test Strategy and Planning: Create test design and verification records according to Illumina’s Quality SDLC and IT compliance standards. Collaborate with the Quality team to define test strategies, test plans, and test cases based on product requirements and specifications. Identify test scenarios and automate them to ensure maximum coverage and efficient testing.
- Test Execution and Reporting: Execute test scripts, analyze test results, and report defects and issues in a timely and accurate manner. Collaborate with the development team to reproduce and troubleshoot issues, ensuring prompt resolution. Perform test suite peer reviews, diagnose failed tests, and track defects. Work on software test engineering problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data require a review of a variety of factors.
- Test Environment Setup: Set up and maintain the test environment, including test data, test beds, and test harnesses. Collaborate with the infrastructure team to ensure availability and reliability of the required test environments.
- Test Documentation: Create and maintain test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test scripts. Ensure documentation is comprehensive, accurate, and up to date.
- Test Automation Development and Maintenance: Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using industry-standard automation tools and frameworks. Collaborate with the development team to understand software requirements and create automated test cases accordingly.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in test automation techniques and tools. Identify opportunities to improve the testing process, increase automation coverage, and enhance test efficiency. Implement best practices and standards to drive continuous improvement in software quality.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and quality teams, to ensure effective coordination and collaboration. Communicate test results, progress, and challenges to stakeholders in business language.
- Work in an agile environment with daily standups, software demos and prioritization meetings.
Position Requirements:
- Proven experience as a software test automation engineer or similar role
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, test planning and test case development
- Strong knowledge of different phase and level of software testing (Unit Testing, Functional Testing, Integration Testing and System Testing)
- Experience with enterprise manufacturing and laboratory systems (such as Camstar/Siemens OpCenter MES, LabVantage LIMS)
- Strong proficiency in test automation tools and frameworks (such as Ranorex Studio, Camstar Transaction Tester, or other test automation tools)
- Experience with other software testing tools like JMeter and SoapUI is highly desirable
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. Has used source control, build and CI/CD practices and tools (i.e., GIT, Maven and TeamCity)
- Experience with version control systems and defect tracking systems e.g., JIRA
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as collaboration skills to work in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Be curious with a proven ability to learn quickly
- Be customer-focused, team-oriented, and motivated, taking ownership of assigned tasks
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or the Natural Sciences
- Experience with enterprise manufacturing, and laboratory systems (Camstar/Siemens OpCenter MES, LabVantage LIMS highly preferred)
- Experience with test automation suites (Ranorex Professional Certification, Camstar Transaction Tester highly preferred)
- Experience with API testing and related tools
- Knowledge of performance testing and related tools
- Experience in manufacturing/life sciences/biotechnology industry is preferred
