We are currently seeking a Senior Software Product Owner, Distributed Energy Resource Programs to join our Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) team and work in close coordination with the Information Systems (IS) team. The DERs team designs, develops, and runs programs that incentivize the adoption of various DERs including distributed solar, energy storage, demand response, microgrids, and electric vehicle grid integration. These leading-edge energy technologies are critical in driving our nation’s progress toward a decarbonized grid, and you will play a material role, both as an individual contributor and leader, in helping our team make this future a reality. You will support the DERs team by translating the department’s operational needs for the IS team, managing growth through effective prioritization and stakeholder engagement. 

 

You will bring strong analytical strength and solid communication skills to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to define and support the development of software projects and platforms in partnership with our software development team. This position is perfect for individuals who have strong skills in communicating complex technical ideas into simple business language and can influence the decisions from the business as well as from engineers.  


Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Interact professionally with clients and to serve as the primary point of client contact for some projects   
  • Communicating project progress to management, clients and utility partners 
  • Leading collaboration with internal and external business stakeholders to clearly define the needs of the business 
  • Facilitating changes in requirements, documentation, processes and systems  
  • Owning the product backlog and applying understanding of complex business needs to prioritize functional enhancements 
  • Owning direction, management, quality control and completion of software and/or program deliverables  
  • Developing risk management strategies and implementation best practices  
  • Coordinate and provide estimates for complex projects or assigned components 
  • Organizing and facilitating in-person meetings, conference calls, and facilitated collaboration sessions  
  • Maintain and communicate clear high-level priorities for software development 
  • Complete ticket-level triage and prioritization for use by software project managers 
  • Review tickets after release and ensure any follow-up steps are completed 
  • Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts to provide input on feature design and specifications 
  • Drive consensus on development priorities in coordination with department leadership (Directors and above) 
  • Support stakeholders in raising development needs, including escalations, while limiting disruption to the software team 


Minimum qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, energy, engineering, environmental or related discipline  
  • A minimum of 10 years of product management – successfully delivering multiple products through a complete PDLC lifecycle  
  • A minimum of 10 years working with software developers – understanding the process of effective delivery and release of software  
  • Good technical analyst skills translating business needs into technical specifications preferred 
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills – especially adept at communicating effectively between non-technical users and technical software developers  
  • Demonstrated outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, including risk management and mitigation   
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Office (Office365, SharePoint, OneNote)   
  • Familiarity with common software project management tools (Jira, Confluence) 
  • Experience working in Agile software development life cycle 

 

Salary DOE:  $110,000 - 145,000/Annually

Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a generous retirement package. Energy Solutions provides an excellent benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, other pre-tax contribution plans and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
