Job Title: Senior Software Performance Engineer 

Job Description: 

Bottomline Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Performance Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead performance testing, tuning, and optimization efforts for large enterprise-grade applications. You will play a critical role in driving the adoption of modern performance engineering practices, ensuring applications meet the highest performance and scalability standards. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of performance engineering principles, cutting-edge tools, and techniques and be well-versed in Kubernetes-based platforms. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Performance Testing and Tuning 
  • Design, develop, and execute performance test plans, scenarios, and scripts for enterprise-grade applications. 
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks at the application, database, and infrastructure levels. 
  • Conduct load, stress, scalability, endurance, and capacity testing. 
  • Performance Monitoring and Analysis 
  • Utilize monitoring tools to capture and analyze system metrics, application logs, and APM data to diagnose performance issues. 
  • Provide detailed performance metrics and recommendations to stakeholders. 
  • Continuously monitor application performance in production environments and provide tuning recommendations. 
  • Best Practices Implementation 
  • Stay updated on the latest performance engineering trends and implement up-to-date best practices. 
  • Create and maintain performance engineering standards, guidelines, and playbooks. 
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers on performance testing and optimization techniques. 
  • Kubernetes and Cloud Expertise 
  • Optimize application performance in Kubernetes-based environments, including containerized and microservices architectures. 
  • Design and execute performance tests tailored for cloud-native applications running on Kubernetes platforms. 
  • Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to ensure performance best practices are followed in CI/CD pipelines. 
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement 
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, and architecture teams to design scalable, high-performance solutions. 
  • Communicate performance risks, bottlenecks, and recommendations effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Work closely with Agile teams to incorporate performance engineering into the development lifecycle. 

Qualifications: 

  • Education and Experience 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in performance engineering and testing large-scale enterprise applications. 
  • Technical Skills 
  • Expertise in performance testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, or similar. 
  • Proficiency in analyzing application performance using APM tools like Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or New Relic. 
  • Strong knowledge of Java/.NET performance tuning and optimization techniques. 
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized applications (e.g., Docker) in a cloud-native environment. 
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, caching strategies, database optimization, and network performance. 
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Helm). 
  • Soft Skills 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. 
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and APIs. 
  • Certifications in Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD) or cloud platforms. 
  • Familiarity with observability stacks like Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch.
