Ciena, a global leader in optical and routing systems, services, and automation software, is seeking a Senior Software Manager to guide the evolution and delivery of embedded software for our cutting-edge Optical Networks products. How You Will Contribute:
 

Reporting to the Director Software Systems Engineering, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership and managerial mentorship to a team of embedded software developers.

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop team members, supporting their career growth and strengthening the team’s capabilities.

  • Plan and influence the delivery of features to meet product requirements while ensuring quality and scalability.

  • Lead multiple concurrent projects to deliver committed features on time with exceptional quality.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in software engineering practices and product performance.

  • Collaborate effectively with ASIC, FW, HW, NPI, systems, product verification, and release teams to ensure seamless delivery.

  • Guide the team through the full software development cycle, from definition to delivery and support.

  • Report on team contributions in regular cross-functional project meetings.
     

The Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.

  • 10+ years of embedded software development experience.

  • 3+ years of leadership experience.

  • Proven record of leading successful teams to deliver large, complex software components as part of multi-functional product development efforts.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop team members.

  • Experience guiding software products through the full lifecycle, from definition to end-of-life.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly organized, self-starter with the ability to manage ambiguity and adapt to change.

Pay Range:
The salary range for this position, in Canada, is $139,400.00 - 222,600.00 CDN

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission. In addition to competitive compensation, Ciena offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, participation in 401(K) (USA) & DCPP (Canada) with company matching, Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), company-paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
