The Role

In an environment where fraud threat actors are continuously evolving their tactics and attacks are becoming more complex, we need to lead and deploy advanced fraud solutions that operate effectively while shaping the advancement of fraud strategies and solutions to safeguard our customers, the company and its employees.

About this role:

Wells Fargo is on the hunt for a Senior Software Engineering Manager, who can build and lead a cross-functional team of engineers to build and operationalize innovative products and capabilities that can detect and predict fraud impacting the bank, its customers, and its ecosystem, or introduce better efficiency in our fraud and claims routines and workflows or accelerate new capability development through software engineering.

You will lead a team of talented engineers while staying close to the technical work. This role requires a balance of people management and hands-on techno-functional leadership, ensuring the team builds high-quality, scalable solutions while maintaining a strong engineering culture.

You’ll mentor engineers, contribute to technical & functional decisions, provide architectural guidance, and ensure the successful delivery of critical work. We look for leaders who foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous learning. You should have a strong technical foundation, experience solving complex engineering challenges, and a track record of building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.

This senior manager will be responsible for:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team or teams of experienced engineers and engineering managers in roles with moderate complexity and risk, responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology

  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release

  • Partner with, engage and influence architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture and enable application migration paths to target architecture, for example cloud readiness, application modernization, data strategy

  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning

  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards

  • Determine appropriate strategy and actions to act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to meet moderate to high-risk deliverables and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement

  • Interpret, develop and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk

  • Collaborate with, partner with and influence Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices

  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers

  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and align with strategic objectives in technology engineering

  • Hire, build and guide a culture of talent development to have the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for product areas and products to meet business objectives and strategy, as well as conduct performance management for engineers and managers

  • Lead the design, development, and management of innovative fraud and claims GenAI solutions across various fraud vectors impacting Wells Fargo or efficiency opportunities

  • Work with the Fraud & Claims platform and product leaders/business partners to operationalize these capabilities and realize benefits and efficiency gains

In this role, you will:

  • Manage a team of software engineers, engineering leads

  • Build support for strategies with business and technology leaders

  • Collaborate with Risk and Control partners to identify control gaps and mitigate and automate with effective controls

  • Guide development of actionable roadmaps and plans for usage and deployment of GenAI capabilities

  • Provide oversight to software craftsmanship, security, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions developed by the teams or third-party providers

  • Set management guidelines and partner with stakeholders to implement key fraud & claims initiatives

  • Lead implementation of projects and encourage engineering innovation

  • Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including more experienced managers

  • Lead team to achieve objectives

  • Interface with external agencies, regulatory bodies, or industry forums

  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Technology Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 6+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and expertise of fraud and Claims management tools and techniques

  • Hands on experience with migration to Pega platform

  • Experience in communicating to executive management team regarding the condition of the portfolios and applicable fraud management strategies

  • Practical software engineering experience in collaborative project settings

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills to gain trust and achieve business objectives

  • Ability to work in fast-paced ever-changing environment and the ability to juggle an array of tasks and individuals on tight timelines

  • Innovative and capable of developing a highly analytical approach to solving problems

  • Track record of recruiting, developing, and engaging highly talented teams

Compensation for this role is between $144,400 to $300,000 depending on skills and depth of experience

Travel may be required, 5-20%

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.
