POSITION SUMMARY

At CVS, we're dedicated to creating a unique and seamless experience for our developers across CVS Digital. We are seeking a strong hands-on senior software engineer who can transform developer’s experiences into innovative solutions, making the journey for our developers at CVS both productive and enjoyable.

This is a newly established team at CVS, and we need a strong technical engineering manager who can work with engineers, product managers, designers, architects, and leadership to build platforms that developers love to use. This is a unique opportunity to help build a team from the ground up.

As a Senior Engineering Manager on the team, you will build and rollout APIs, CLI tools, out-of-the-box automation tools using CVS Health approved tools, LLMs and Machine Learning algorithms, test, preview, deploy. 

As a Senior Engineering Manager supporting our Developer Experience and Automation team, you should be able lead and drive:

Strategic Leadership: Drive the vision and roadmap for intelligent automation initiatives that streamline developer workflows and enhance engineering outcomes.

Solution Architecture: Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, cloud-native applications using modern full-stack frameworks.

AI Integration: Champion the integration of AI capabilities into automation pipelines to enable adaptive systems and data-driven decision-making.

Performance Optimization: Apply DORA metrics to assess and continuously improve engineering performance, delivery velocity, and operational efficiency.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, product, and platform teams to align automation strategies with organizational goals.

What We Expect of You:

  • Leading teams to design, implement, and optimize automated systems

  • Key responsibilities include project management, technical leadership, strategic planning, and stakeholder collaboration

  • Advocate for engineering best practices, including test coverage, clean code, and security

  • Be data-driven and articulate the value our platform provides to all engineering teams at CVS Health

  • Work closely with data scientists, software developers, and business stakeholders to translate AI research into practical, deployable solutions that address business needs and enhance decision-making processes

  • Lead the prototyping and experimentation with new generative models, optimizing them for specific use cases (e.g., content generation, personalization, simulation) and scaling prototypes into production-grade applications

  • Emphasize the importance of mentorship and training to upskill both yourself and junior engineers, fostering a strong and supportive engineering team

  • Act as a technical leader across all parts of the CVS Health Infrastructure engineering team

  • Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to standardize how we can enhance the experience

  • Stay aligned with the latest developments in cloud-native and ML ops/engineering and to experiment with and learn new technologies – NumPy, data science packages like sci-kit, microservices architecture

  • Actively participate in the design and architecture process for new services across teams

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of overall experience in Software Development, Agile Practices, Team and Project/Product Management

  • 3+ years of overall development experience on enterprise-class applications

  • 3+ years partnering with architecture, product, and program management teams to influence product development decisions

  • 3+ years of experience working on projects using mature CI/CD practices, source control such as Git, and automated testing

  • 2+ years of experience working with large public cloud technologies (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure)

  • Experience in setting up and optimizing efficient data stores (RDBMS/NoSQL) for production

  • Experience leading teams (team size of at least 5 or more engineers) that follow a Scrum/Agile development methodology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of different infrastructure architecture designs

  • Experience partnering with product and engineering leaders to deliver high-quality technology solutions

  • Excellent personal communication, organization, and time management skills

  • Awareness of new and emerging technologies and the ability to present their benefits and drawbacks to a large engineering organization

  • Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and understanding in developing AI/ML infrastructure on cloud services

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Hands on experience with one or more technologies such as Java, ReactJS, Springboot, Python is preferred.

  • Strong in team building skills, ability to drive the project from an idea to implementation, understanding of CI/CD, understanding of coding and database, great to have hands on but knowledge is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of AI and ML highly preferred.

     

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$106,605.00 - $260,590.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
