Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer – Edge & Industrial IoT Platforms to join our Industrial Automation Digital Organization. You will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-grade Edge and Industrial IoT software platforms supporting mission-critical industrial systems. Working with modern distributed architectures, cloud-edge integrations, and AI-assisted engineering workflows, you will help deliver secure, scalable, and high-performance software solutions that enable ABB's industrial digitalization strategy.

Working as part of a collaborative Agile engineering team, you will partner with Solution Architects, Product Management, DevOps, Quality Engineering, and global software teams to build next-generation industrial software platforms using .NET, C#, ASP.NET Core, Kubernetes, Docker, Azure, and modern cloud-native technologies.

This role is contributing to the Process Automation – Digital Industry Analytics / Research & Development organization in Bangalore, India.

You will be mainly accountable for
  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade Edge and Industrial IoT applications using .NET/C#, ASP.NET Core, REST APIs, and modern cloud-native technologies, while building scalable microservices, containerized applications, and distributed systems.
  • Develop secure Edge computing solutions by implementing telemetry ingestion, device management, industrial communication protocols, edge-to-cloud integrations, event-driven architectures, and high-performance data processing pipelines.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Architects, DevOps, and Quality Engineering teams to deliver reliable software through Agile methodologies, CI/CD automation, AI-assisted development practices, and modern engineering standards.
  • Ensure engineering excellence by driving software quality, performance optimization, observability, cybersecurity, troubleshooting, production support, and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.
Qualifications for the Role
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5–8 years of experience in enterprise software development using .NET/.NET Core, C#, ASP.NET Core, REST APIs, and full-stack application development.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift, Docker, microservices, CI/CD pipelines, Git, cloud-native application development, and distributed system architectures.
  • Knowledge of Industrial IoT, Edge Computing, industrial communication protocols (MQTT, AMQP, OPC-UA, Modbus), Linux environments, and event-driven architectures, with exposure to Azure or hybrid cloud platforms preferred.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Generative AI workflows, telemetry pipelines, observability platforms, and industrial automation solutions is considered an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including testing, debugging, performance optimization, secure software development, and high-availability application design.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in Agile teams, mentor junior engineers, and continuously adopt emerging technologies.

Skills Required

  • 5-8 years professional software engineering experience with full-stack development
  • BE/BTech/ME/MTech in Computer Science, IT, Electronics, or related engineering discipline
  • Strong proficiency in .NET/.NET Core, C#, and ASP.NET Core
  • Experience building REST APIs and server-side components
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and containerization technologies
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift and microservices architecture
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based development workflows (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar)
  • Knowledge of MQTT, AMQP, OPC-UA, Modbus, HTTP/HTTPS, WebSockets, and edge computing architectures
  • Familiarity with Linux environments and event-driven/message-driven systems
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills; ability to mentor junior engineers in Agile teams
  • Experience in industrial automation, Edge computing, IoT, or real-time systems
  • Experience with CrateDB, PostgreSQL, time-series databases, Azure Cloud or AWS
  • Exposure to AI/ML integration, GitHub Copilot, and AI-assisted development workflows
  • Familiarity with observability and distributed tracing platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry)
