The job details are as follows:OCLC's Cloud Library team is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and support scalable cloud-based applications that serve libraries and their users around the world. This role requires a strong technical foundation, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to contribute across the software development lifecycle—from architecture and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
The ideal candidate is a full-stack engineer who thrives in a cloud-native environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and can provide technical leadership while partnering closely with product, engineering, and operations teams.
Full-Stack development experience is preferred.

Responsibilities 

Software Design & Development 

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain complex software solutions within the Cloud Library platform. 

  • Build high-quality, scalable, secure, and maintainable applications across front-end and back-end systems. 

  • Develop and enhance cloud-native services and APIs supporting business-critical applications. 

  • Participate in all phases of software development, including requirements analysis, architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and support. 

  • Contribute to modernization initiatives and continuous improvement of systems and processes. 

Technical Leadership 

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to engineering team members. 

  • Participate in architecture discussions and technical design reviews. 

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through collaboration, code reviews, and knowledge sharing. 

  • Promote engineering best practices, design patterns, and coding standards. 

  • Help identify technical debt and recommend strategic improvements. 

Quality & Operational Excellence 

  • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to quality, security, and performance standards. 

  • Support CI/CD processes and DevOps practices to enable reliable software delivery. 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while participating in operational support activities. 

  • Participate in monitoring, observability, and incident response efforts. 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of business objectives. 

 

Current Technology Stack (Candidates are not expected to have experience with every technology listed below. We recognize that strong engineers bring transferable skills and may have expertise in related technologies. Experience with a subset of these technologies, combined with a willingness to learn, is welcomed.) 
Front-end: [React / Angular / Vue / TypeScript / JavaScript — confirm stack] 

  • Back-end: [Java / .NET / Node.js / Python / Go — confirm stack] 

  • APIs: RESTful services, integration patterns, and service-oriented architecture 

  • Databases: [PostgreSQL / SQL Server / MySQL / MongoDB / DynamoDB — confirm stack] 

  • Cloud: [AWS / Azure / Google Cloud — confirm platform] 

  • DevOps: CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, and production support 

  • Tools: Git, Jira, build pipelines, code review tools, and observability platforms 

 

Qualifications 

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, and/or equivalent professional experience. 

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience. 

  • Strong experience developing scalable web applications and distributed systems. 

  • Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure. 

  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices. 

  • Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Node.js. 

  • Experience working with relational database technologies. 

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. 

Preferred 

  • Experience with cloud-native application architecture and distributed systems. 

  • Experience supporting highly available, customer-facing SaaS applications. 

  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. 

  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React or Angular. 

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments. 

  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
