We're seeking a passionate technologist to join our Investment Banking & Global Capital Markets Technology team as a Director UI Developer in the Advisory Sales & Distribution Super Department to build innovation solutions to support the complex and evolving needs of our businesses in Institutional Securities Group.
In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Software Engineering position at the Director level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

What you'll do in the role:

  • Contribute across the entire software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and support of scalable applications.

  • Collaborate with product, UX, and backend teams to deliver high-quality, end-to-end solutions that balance performance, usability, and reliability.

  • Drive best practices in both front-end architecture and backend service design, ensuring maintainability and extensibility across the stack.

  • Engage in training and upskilling activities across both front-end and back-end technologies to continuously enhance full-stack engineering capabilities.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Strong Full Stack developer (4+ years) with solid experience in modern web front-end frameworks (Angular/React) and backend technologies (Java/Spring Boot or similar)

  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and responsive design principles, along with experience building and consuming RESTful APIs

  • Experience developing backend services, including API design, service orchestration, and integration with databases (SQL/NoSQL such as MongoDB)

  • Experience with common front-end libraries (Angular/React/Ember) and backend frameworks (Spring Boot or equivalent), along with debugging tools (e.g., Chrome DevTools, server-side logging tools)

  • Experience with review-centric development models, including frequent code reviews and a strong focus on code quality

  • Good understanding of web performance, system performance, and how browsers, APIs, and distributed services interact

  • Knowledge of native DOM and Event APIs, and understanding of how frontend interacts with backend services and APIs

  • Solid experience with unit testing across both frontend and backend components, including API and integration testing

  • Experience building and operating applications within automated build pipelines (CI/CD), testing frameworks, and modern DevOps environments

  • Knowledge of modern application architecture patterns, including microservices, API-driven development, and scalable system design

  • Strong understanding of best practices across performance, security, accessibility, and usability for both frontend and backend layers

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across distributed teams

  • Independent, with the ability to take initiative and drive solutions end-to-end without requiring direct guidance

  • Experience with iterative / agile development practices

  • Experience using Git for source control and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Gradle/Maven pipelines)

 

Nice to have:

  • Experience with software development and collaboration tools (GitHub, Jira/Rally, Confluence, etc.)

  • Experience with distributed systems architecture concepts such as microservices and event-driven systems

  • Exposure to micro frontends and modular UI architectures

  • Experience with containerization and deployment platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, or internal equivalents)

  • Significant open-source or community contributions

  • Experience with BDD testing frameworks and tools

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $120,000 and $165,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
