We’re looking for a Senior Python Software Engineer that has a strong interest in both cloud-computing & Machine Learning in order to help build our complex SAAS solution alongside our world-class tech teams.

You'll have the opportunity to be part of a newly formed engineering team focusing on a new product. This team is responsible for building a new cloud-native product from the ground up, presenting an exciting technical challenge.

Our Technical Leads will form feature teams - consisting of Frontend Software Engineers, Backend Software Engineers , Product Managers & Product Designers.

You'll leverage cutting-edge technologies & architectural patterns to create a scalable, resilient, and efficient solution that meets the evolving needs of our clients in the insurance industry.


As a Python Software Engineer you’ll:

  • Be a reference for technical subjects such as architecture and guidelines;

  • Regularly work with our Product & Design teams to turn our vision into a tangible roadmaps

  • Maintain, evolve and evangelise Akur8’s software development best practices (clean Code, automation test, reliability) to engineers, ensuring that they're followed

  • Design and build complex systems, focusing on performance, scalability, security, as well as crafting an attractive UX

  • Testing as a part of the development process (unit, integration and E2E tests);

  • Collaborate with other engineers to deliver our machine learning pipelines.

As well as:

  • Implement new actuarial requirements as Python functions

  • Review and optimize existing python functions as necessary

  • Provide unit tests around all Python capabilities

  • Work with subject matter experts to research, prototype, and develop new actuarial approaches

  • Support actuarial data analytics by building reusable analysis functions

  • Help develop visualization components for actuarial results and diagnostics


REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE NECESSARY FOR THIS ROLE:

  • Strong Python software development skills

  • Comfortable turning actuarial, financial, or mathematical concepts into robust, scalable Python code

  • Experience with AWS and its services

Technological environment:

  • Amazon AWS (and numerous AWS services), C#, Python, .NET, Entity Framework, Angular, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, .NET Aspire, SignalR, Github

Candidates must be team players with strong interpersonal skills, have proven experience building commercial-grade business software, a successful track record developing for Amazon AWS, as well as:

  • A MINIMUM of 5 years postgraduate experience as a Python Developer;

  • Knowledge of data structures and related algorithms and their implementation in code & databases;

Python Development Experience

  • Ability to produce clean, modular, testable code and a good knowledge of software development best practices;

  • Experience with packaging, virtual environments, and dependency management

  • Understanding of functional and object-oriented design patterns

  • Vectorized computing (NumPy/Pandas)

  • Parallelism/multithreading for heavy computational models

Data Science & Numerical

  • NumPy for numerical operations

  • Polars or Pandas for data manipulation and wrangling

  • Statsmodels for statistical modeling

  • Scikit-learn for ML workflow fundamentals (pipelines, cross-validation, metrics)

  • SciPy for numerical optimization and interpolation

  • Aptitude for mathematics, with the ability to understand and implement statistical and financial calculations;

Soft skills

  • Good communication skills and a will to share your knowledge with your team;

  • Ability to work independently;

  • Excellent English skills, and ability to write and speak clearly and effectively;

Additional BONUS skills (desirable but nonessential)

Technical

  • Experience of backend projects in C#/.NET or similar;

  • Knowledge of database design in PostgreSQL;

  • Experience with micro service architecture.

  • Experience with Kubernetes.

Functional

  • Familiar with non-life reserving workflows, and advanced statistical modeling

  • Understanding of loss reserve triangles, claims development, cohorts

  • Ability to translate actuarial formulas into optimized Python modules

  • Understanding of claims-level datasets

  • Policy exposure aggregation

  • Actuarial data structures (triangles, severity/frequency data, etc.)
