Key Responsibilities:Sustaining Engineering:
The role is heavily focused on sustaining engineering, meaning you’ll ensure the system is functioning smoothly in production, making sure SLAs are met, and troubleshooting live issues as they arise.
Design & Development:
You’ll work on designing and delivering distributed, scalable microservices-based applications. The use of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm) indicates a focus on modern, cloud-native architectures.
Research & Innovation:
A key part of the role involves researching new solutions to enhance Qualys' technology platform, especially in cloud-native environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI).
Production Support & Troubleshooting:
You'll be handling live troubleshooting alongside support teams and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), providing quick fixes or workarounds when needed. Your software development skills will be critical in delivering those solutions in real-time.
Mentorship & Guidance:
Providing technical expertise and mentoring junior team members is a significant part of the role, suggesting that leadership skills and experience are highly valued.
Core Qualifications:
Experience: 6+ years working with enterprise-level solutions, specifically in Java. This suggests you should be comfortable with both backend engineering and possibly full-stack responsibilities.
Technology Stack:
Strong understanding of relational databases like Oracle, and experience with indexing technologies (Elasticsearch) and caching technologies (Redis, Memcached).
Familiarity with building REST APIs and understanding data structures and algorithms is important.
Kafka: Knowledge of Kafka event streaming technology could be valuable.
Microservices & Containers: Experience with microservices architecture, and working with containers (Docker, Kubernetes), is highlighted as crucial.
Soft Skills:
Good communication skills are emphasized, particularly for troubleshooting and resolving customer issues. Listening skills seem to be critical in understanding customer pain points and coming up with innovative solutions.
Cloud Security & Vulnerability Management: If you have any experience in this space, it would be a huge plus.
