The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a motivated and skilled Software Engineer to join us. In this role, you will be working in the middle-ground between OpenStack and OpenShift. As part of the OpenStack Core Operators team you will be responsible for maintaining and verifying the “Distributed Compute Nodes” feature of Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift, working closely with engineers from surrounding teams to ensure this feature integrates well with other parts of the product.
Distributed Compute Nodes is an Edge technology that allows customers to run some, or all, of their OpenStack workloads at remote sites.
What will you do?
Contribute to OpenStack Kubernetes Operators
Collaborate with OpenStack Storage and Networking teams
Write new test cases and support our Continuous Integration tests.
Maintain existing test jobs
What will you bring?
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a technology-related discipline
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision as a part of a geographically distributed team
Good communication skills in English, ability to work as part of a team
5+ year(s) of professional experience, at least some of which using Kubernetes
Experience with GitHub, GitLab, or other collaborative code forges
Experience with OpenStack
Experience with Python and/or Go.
A willingness to proactively utilize AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and Claude Code for code generation, auto-completion, and intelligent suggestions to accelerate development cycles and enhance code quality.
Open to exploring and experimenting with emerging AI technologies relevant to software development, proactively identifying opportunities to incorporate new AI capabilities into existing workflows and tooling
