The Role

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer
Department: Software Engineering
Job Level: L5
FLSA: Exempt

Job Summary:

The Senior Software Engineer will serve in a high-impact technical leadership role, contributing to the overall technical vision and execution of key projects. This individual will drive innovation, lead complex initiatives, and mentor junior engineers, playing a pivotal role in architecture decisions, project ownership, and quality assurance across the development lifecycle.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to engineering team members.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional and technical growth.
  • Promote a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

System Design & Architecture

  • Collaborate on system design with architects and cross-functional teams.
  • Make informed architectural decisions to ensure scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Evaluate system design trade-offs and propose optimal solutions.

Software Development

  • Develop, test, and maintain robust, high-quality software using modern programming languages and frameworks.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code that meets organizational standards.
  • Take ownership of critical components and ensure they meet quality benchmarks.

Project Ownership

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of complex software projects.
  • Define project scope, timelines, and resource needs.
  • Coordinate across departments (e.g., Product, Design) to ensure successful outcomes.

Technical Strategy

  • Influence and contribute to technical strategy and engineering roadmaps.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and development best practices.
  • Recommend tools and frameworks to improve team effectiveness and product quality.

Problem Solving & Troubleshooting

  • Analyze and resolve complex software bugs and production issues.
  • Collaborate on root cause analysis and post-mortem activities.
  • Proactively improve reliability and resilience of systems.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to align technical work with business goals.
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Report project status, blockers, and risks regularly.

Quality Assurance

  • Lead code reviews and establish best practices for software quality.
  • Promote and implement testing strategies, including automated testing.
  • Drive continuous integration and deployment processes.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

  • Create and maintain technical documentation (e.g., architecture diagrams, APIs, developer guides).
  • Share knowledge and support internal development of best practices.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties or takes on specialized responsibilities as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Required Skills/Abilities/Qualifications: 

  • Proven experience in designing and developing complex software systems.
  • Expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, C++, Python).
  • Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.
  • Strong experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud platforms.
  • Thorough understanding of modern software development methodologies and tools.

Preferred Skills/Abilities/Qualifications: 

  • Experience in tech startup highly preferred

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or robotics engineering.
  • Equivalent experience in lieu of formal education may be considered.

The pay range for this position is $174K - $218K + discretionary annual performance bonus . Pay is dependent on the applicant's relevant experience.
