We are a Boston based, venture-backed biotech startup that makes extracting vital information from biological samples is as simple as pressing a button, through our flagship product Callisto. Our product speeds up processing time for scientists and increases accessibility to important genetic information for patients. Sitting at the intersection of science and engineering, we invite you to join us on our journey to shape the future of genomics, where insatiable curiosity is encouraged and every Voltarian makes an impact.

THE TEAM:

You'll join a team of innovative thinkers who love to experiment, collaborate, and win together. We are passionate about pushing the boundaries of automation, biology, computing, robotics, design, and user experience to benefit our customers and the world.

Our team is growing naturally and looking to add a Software Engineer with strong frontend skills to support our commercial launch. This is a unique engineering environment that combines software, firmware, robotics, biology, and chemistry into one product, with you working cross functionally between all groups. This is the perfect role for an engineer with some production experience behind them, ready to join a startup as the rocketship is taking off.

DAY TO DAY AND YEAR 1:

  • Developing software anywhere in the device stack and beyond in languages including C, C++, Rust, Python, React and Javascript
  • Author Python code to run on the instrument and control its functionality
  • Develop manufacturing test functionality
  • Documenting software design, implementation, and testing procedures to ensure clarity, maintenance, and scalability
  • Partnering with our hardware engineers, scientists, and product managers to ensure Callisto’s software is as robust and effective as possible
  • Design, develop, and maintain features for customer-facing products and internal tools
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve complex software errors, taking ownership of the resolution processDeploy software updates to fleets of instruments and monitor them to provide a stable instrument platform for end users
  • Participate in code reviews, follow company coding standards, and write unit tests
  • Contribute to the overall success of the team by proactively identifying opportunities for process improvement and innovation
  • Facilitate hardware bringup and failure analysis. Regularly getting your hands dirty on unrefined hardware

  • Within 3 months you’ll…have completed onboarding, be ramped into our code base and fully understand our product and opportunity. Training wheels will be off, and you’ll be working independently but in a collaborative environment.

By 6 months you’ll…have shipped your first code set (or more) for new controls , be developing opinions and insights to surface to the senior team, and be actively learning and sharing your knowledge with your team.

At 12+ months you’ll…be supporting hiring, growing your technical acumen, moving cross functionally through the org, and owning software projects from design to deployment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hands on design, development, and launch to production experience of electromechanical device software
  • Ability to build a highly technical product for a low-tech audience; A startup mindset - the ability to connect dots quickly, iterate on the fly, and have courage to take calculated risks
  • Prior in-production collaboration with (or direct experience alongside) hardware engineers - this role is a close collaborator, and awareness of hardware constraints and general knowledge is a day-1 must have.
  • You are comfortable with digging in on hardware and can read schematics
