About Gravitee

Recognized in Gartner's inaugural 2026 Magic Quadrant™ for AI Agent Management Platforms and named a Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for API Management for three consecutive years, Gravitee brings AI agents and the APIs they rely on under one unified control plane. We provide a platform for managing and securing APIs, event streams, and AI agent interactions. Organizations including Michelin, Roche, and Blue Yonder use Gravitee to control and observe systems their businesses depend on.

Why join us?

  • The mission: Help define how enterprises securely adopt AI agents, alongside the APIs and event streams they already rely on.

  • The momentum: Join a high-growth market leader that combines proven technology and customer trust with the pace of a scale-up.

  • The culture: We hire pragmatic builders who take ownership, collaborate openly, and Hold Nothing Back.

The Role & Why It Exists

We are looking for Senior Software Engineers to build Gravitee's core products and the next-generation product surface in Gamma. You will join one of three areas: API Management (APIM) and the gateway runtime, Access Management (AM), or the Event Gateway for Kafka. The work sits where API governance, identity, event streaming, and AI agent management meet.

These are new roles in the US. Today, most core platform engineering is based in Europe. These hires build US-hours ownership of Level 3 and Level 4 escalations for our products, and add delivery capacity toward parity in Gamma and the AI Agent Management roadmap.

You will split your time roughly 80% feature delivery and 20% L3/L4 support and bug fixing (it varies week to week), working as an embedded member of a product team based in Europe. We will match you to the area that best fits your experience. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who is comfortable moving between services, APIs, data models, and technical design.

Location: Denver, Colorado preferred. Elsewhere in the US is acceptable, with monthly travel to the Denver hub.

What You Will Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Design and deliver features end to end, from technical design through implementation, testing, release, and iteration, on one of Gravitee's product areas: API Management and the gateway runtime, Access Management, or the Event Gateway for Kafka.

  • Build and evolve Java services and APIs, including performance-sensitive, asynchronous code in the runtime.

  • Contribute to the customer experience in the Gamma console, across backend APIs and TypeScript and Angular interfaces, as your team needs.

  • Keep security behavior and upgrades safe: secure defaults, certificate and secret handling, audit logs, safe migrations, and backward compatibility.

  • Own US-hours Level 3 and Level 4 escalations for your product as part of the L3 pager duty rotation.

  • Help bring AI agent management to the platform, including AI Gateways, MCP, and agent-to-agent interactions.

  • Use LLMs and AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully for prototyping, implementation, testing, and debugging, applying sound engineering judgment to validate AI-generated work.

  • Write meaningful automated tests and contribute to reliable delivery, across Gravitee's open-source platform and Enterprise Edition.

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers, including teams based in Europe, and improve solutions through code and design reviews.

Essential Skills

We are looking for evidence that you can succeed in the role, whether gained through employment, open-source work, or equivalent practical experience:

  • 5+ years building and operating production software, on a team that ships and supports its own product; you have personally resolved production incidents.

  • Strong Java experience, including maintainable REST APIs and backend services. Strong C# with the same object-oriented depth is also considered.

  • A solid understanding of API design, data modeling, distributed systems, and asynchronous workflows.

  • Experience with relational or document data stores, including safe migrations and backward compatibility.

  • A security-first mindset: authentication and authorization fundamentals, secure defaults, and certificate and secret handling.

  • Experience with automated testing, Git-based development, code review, and iterative product delivery.

  • Hands-on experience using LLMs or AI coding assistants as part of an engineering workflow, combined with the judgment to review and improve their output.

  • Clear communication, and the ability to take an ambiguous problem through to production.

  • Willingness to join an L3 pager duty rotation in US hours.

Desired Skills

You do not need to match every item. We would be especially interested in experience with:

  • Gateways and runtimes: reactive Java (Vert.x, RxJava, Netty), or an API gateway, proxy, or service-mesh vendor or platform team (for example Kong, Google Apigee, MuleSoft, Tyk, Solo.io, Traefik, WSO2).

  • Identity: implementing OAuth 2.0 and OIDC flows, SAML 2.0, SCIM, MFA, WebAuthn/FIDO2, or FAPI, CIBA, and UMA profiles.

  • Event streaming: Kafka internals, binary protocols, backpressure, and performance under load.

  • Frontend: TypeScript with Angular or another component-based framework, including data-rich interfaces.

  • Cloud native: Docker, Kubernetes, operators and CRDs, and Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.

  • AI: MCP, Agent2Agent (A2A), tool calling, LLM proxies, or building LLM-powered applications. Prior production experience is not required.

  • Open-source software or enterprise developer platforms.

  • Take ownership, communicate clearly, and follow through with urgency.

  • Balance delivery speed with thoughtful engineering judgment.

  • Start with the customer problem and care about the quality of the experience you create.

  • Enjoy working in a fast-moving, collaborative, international environment.
