BlackLine SaaS is the system of interaction for finance and accounting teams and it integrates with numerous ERPs, CRMs, Payment systems, Point of Sale systems and other applications.As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering high quality releases to our customers by designing, developing, troubleshooting, maintaining, optimizing and scaling BlackLine’s cloud-based backend services and driving innovation into our product suite. In this role, you will collaborate with other teams to define and build new features, optimize existing features while writing elegant code, and communicate with people at all levels. Your attention to detail, tenacity, and creative problem-solving and thinking ahead will directly impact the company's success, as well as the success of your peers across the organization.

You'll Get To:
- Design, develop and deliver product features, while adhering to timelines, coding standards, requirements, and quality.
- Implement, refine, and enforce software development techniques to ensure that delivered features meet software integration, performance, security, and maintainability expectations.
- Maintain high standards of software quality and technical excellence within the team by establishing good practices and habits and writing clean, testable, maintainable, and secure code.
- Inspire a forward-thinking team of developers, acting as an agent of change and evangelist for a quality-first culture within the organization. Mentor and coach junior team members and guide them to solutions.
- Proactively identify issues, bottlenecks, gaps, or other areas of concern or opportunity and work to either directly affect change, or advocate for that change by working with peers and leadership to build consensus and take action.
- Perform critical maintenance, deployment, and release support activities, including occasional off-hours support.

What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- 6+ years of industry experience designing and operating distributed systems or high-availability, high-throughput production systems.
- Experience designing and building microservices architectures, including RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages: .NET (C#), Java, or Python, with strong command of object-oriented and functional programming principles.
- Deep understanding of event-driven design, domain-driven design (DDD), and the trade-offs involved in architectural decisions at scale.
- Hands-on experience with GCP services (Cloud Storage, GKE, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub) and Terraform as infrastructure-as-code tool.
- Experience integrating Terraform with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Cloud Build) following GitOps principles.
- Proficiency with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Hands-on experience with relational and non-relational databases: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and NoSQL solutions. Experience with Apache Kafka or similar event streaming platforms for building real-time, event-driven systems. Knowledge of distributed systems, messaging patterns, and system integration strategies.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and modern development tools across the full SDLC.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices, performance optimization, and system resiliency.
- Strong culture of automated testing: unit, integration, and end-to-end. TDD or BDD experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated proficiency using AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude in day-to-day engineering workflows, with the ability to integrate these tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality, security, and maintainability standards.
- Ability to design, build, and ship agentic AI features or frameworks, including autonomous workflows and secure orchestration of AI-driven actions.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance, while advocating for engineering quality and strong documentation.

- Google Professional Cloud Developer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification.
- Familiarity with Generative/Agentic AI ecosystem on GCP.
- Experience with React for frontend collaboration and full-stack feature delivery.
- Exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments.
- Practical experience building Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, including document retrieval, embedding strategies, and LLM integration for knowledge-grounded applications.
- Familiarity with LLM orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex) or vector databases as part of AI-powered backend systems.
