Our engineering teams build the software that powers clinical care delivery at Oak Street Health — patient scheduling, care coordination, clinical records, and the integrations that connect our systems to health networks across the country. As a Sr Software Engineer, you'll own complex workstreams, drive technical decisions within your domain, and mentor the engineers around you. The work needs to be reliable, maintainable, and built to evolve — and in a healthcare environment, the quality of the design has direct clinical consequences.
- Design and implement scalable microservices and APIs optimized for reliability and low latency
- Own a domain or service area end-to-end, including its data model and integration contracts
- Apply domain-driven design principles to define and enforce service boundaries
- Build and evolve event-driven integrations using Kafka across service teams
- Lead code reviews, set technical standards, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers
- Partner with product and clinical stakeholders to refine requirements for high-impact initiatives
- Hold the team accountable for test coverage, observability, and the production health of the services you own

- 5+ years building distributed backend systems in production
- Proficiency with Kotlin or Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem
- Experience designing event-driven systems (Kafka or equivalent)
- Hands-on experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or comparable data stores
- Track record of leading technical work across a team — not just executing it
- Experience with cloud-native deployment (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- Deep familiarity with domain-driven design and bounded context modeling
- Exposure to LLM/AI integration or document processing pipelines
- Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7) or EMR integrations
- Background in high-throughput, low-latency service design at scale
- Experience with event sourcing, CQRS, or other advanced event-driven patterns

The typical pay range for this role is:
$101,970.00 - $203,940.00This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
