Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer - DevOps to join the Payments Network group and help support, automate, optimize, and scale critical Mastercard services. The role is ideal for a strong DevOps engineer with hands-on Linux administration, automation, CI/CD, observability, troubleshooting, and performance tuning experience. The engineer will work cross-functionally with development, operations, product, and infrastructure teams to ensure highly available, secure, and resilient services running on Linux-based virtual machines and containerized platforms.
Role and Responsibilities
Design, build, automate, and manage scalable DevOps solutions for critical Mastercard applications and infrastructure.
Use automation and advanced monitoring to deploy, manage, and ensure stability and high availability across a large fleet of Linux servers, virtual machines, and containers.
Automate operational, server provisioning, configuration management, and deployment workflows using tools such as Ansible, Chef, Jenkins, Git, Artifactory, Docker registry, and related CI/CD platforms.
Drive continuous integration, build, test, deployment, and end-to-end automation practices in a globally distributed engineering environment.
Perform performance analysis, complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and tuning for services running on Linux platforms, including RHEL/CentOS environments.
Prevent customer impact through proactive monitoring, alerting, observability, and pre-emptive corrective actions; respond to incidents in a timely and structured manner when they occur.
Operate within ITIL practices, including Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, and operational readiness processes.
Partner with development teams to improve application reliability, deployment quality, infrastructure scalability, and production supportability.
Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, operational reviews, and technical decision-making for DevOps and platform engineering solutions.
Create, maintain, and improve documented procedures, runbooks, Ansible playbooks, knowledge base articles, and operational best practices.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of DevSecOps tools, administration best practices, agile delivery practices, and emerging AI-assisted engineering capabilities.
Mentor junior engineers, promote automation-first thinking, and contribute to continuous improvement across engineering and operations practices.
Participate in a rotational on-call schedule to support business-critical services as required.
All About You
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
At least 6 to 8 years of overall experience in software engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, Linux administration, infrastructure automation, or production operations.
Strong hands-on experience with Linux platforms, preferably RHEL/CentOS, including administration, debugging, performance tuning, and operational support.
Strong experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management tools such as Ansible or Chef; ability to create, modify, optimize, and troubleshoot playbooks and automation workflows.
Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and software delivery practices using tools such as Git, Jenkins, Artifactory, Docker registry, and related build/deployment platforms.
Experience with containerized application deployments and platforms such as Docker; exposure to managing services running across VMs and containers.
Experience using observability and monitoring tools such as Splunk and Dynatrace for log analysis, system health monitoring, troubleshooting, and proactive alerting.
Strong scripting experience using Shell, Bash, Python, Perl, or similar scripting languages to automate repeatable operational tasks.
Good understanding of networking and firewall technologies, including troubleshooting connectivity and access-related issues.
Experience with incident response, problem management, change management, production readiness, and operating in an ITIL-aligned environment.
Strong debugging, problem-solving, analytical, and root cause analysis skills with the ability to work independently on complex technical issues.
Agile delivery experience with a collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with development, product, infrastructure, and business stakeholders.
Learning mindset, exposure to AI tools, and willingness to bring innovation into DevOps, automation, observability, and operational efficiency.
Preferred / Good to Have Skills
Experience with Golang or Python 3.8 and above for automation, tools development, platform utilities, or API integrations.
Experience building or supporting RESTful APIs, gRPC services, protocol buffers, or data-intensive backend services.
Familiarity with unit testing, test-driven development, automated validation, and release quality gates.
Exposure to DevSecOps practices including secure configuration, vulnerability awareness, access control, and compliance-oriented operations.
Experience contributing to solution design, architecture discussions, and modernization initiatives for highly available platforms.
Ability to identify opportunities for automation, self-healing, reliability improvement, and AI-assisted operational insights.
