About Us

Eftsure is a fast-scaling SaaS Fraud Technology platform protecting Australian businesses from payment fraud through real-time vendor verification and payment protection.

In a world of rapidly evolving cybercrime and payment fraud, we help ensure our customers never pay the wrong people.

Our vision is to become the Security Standard for B2B payments through continual platform evolution and international expansion. As we continue to scale, we’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team.

Our technology environment includes Java, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, AWS, .NET and CI/CD using GitHub and GitLab.

Role Summary

The Senior Software Engineer at Eftsure is a critical member of our product development team, combining strong hands-on engineering capability with deep technical judgement and architectural thinking.

You’ll design and build scalable, reliable software while taking ownership of complex technical problems from design through to production. We’re looking for an engineer who can go beyond implementing a solution - someone who can articulate why an approach has been chosen, evaluate trade-offs, anticipate how systems will behave at scale and make sound technical decisions that support our long-term product direction.

As a senior member of the team, you’ll remain hands-on with code while contributing to system design, technical direction and engineering standards. You’ll also support the development of other engineers through mentoring, code reviews and knowledge sharing.

As a valued member of the Eftsure team, your responsibilities will be to:

  • Architect and Build Scalable Solutions: Design and implement scalable, resilient and maintainable software systems, making considered decisions across application architecture, data, security, performance and infrastructure.

  • Own Complex Technical Problems: Take technical challenges from initial investigation and system design through to implementation and production, balancing immediate requirements with long-term scalability and maintainability.

  • Build for Scale and Reliability: Identify and solve application and infrastructure-level performance challenges, considering monitoring, failure scenarios, system reliability and how solutions will perform as our platform continues to grow.

  • Stay Hands-On: Translate architectural decisions into high-quality, production-ready code, with appropriate consideration for testing, error handling, edge cases and maintainability.

  • Make Sound Technical Decisions: Evaluate different approaches and clearly articulate the reasoning, trade-offs and longer-term implications behind your technical decisions.

  • Drive Technical Excellence: Contribute to engineering standards through thoughtful code reviews, technical documentation and knowledge sharing, while mentoring and supporting other engineers.

  • Collaborate for Impact: Work closely with cross-functional teams, both onshore and offshore, to understand business requirements and deliver technical solutions that create meaningful product and customer outcomes.

  • Continuously Improve: Identify opportunities to improve our architecture, development practices and engineering processes, and evaluate new technologies where they can provide genuine value.

What You Need to Be Successful

  • Strong Engineering Fundamentals: Deep understanding of software engineering principles and the ability to apply them to complex, real-world systems rather than relying solely on frameworks or established patterns.

  • System Design & Architecture: Experience designing scalable, reliable and maintainable systems, with the ability to move comfortably between high-level architecture and the technical detail underpinning your decisions.

  • Technical Judgement: Ability to evaluate multiple approaches to a problem, articulate the trade-offs involved and make decisions based on factors such as scale, performance, reliability, security and business requirements.

  • Scalability & Performance: Experience identifying and solving application and infrastructure-level performance challenges in production environments.

  • Production Mindset: Strong understanding of what it takes to operate software reliably in production, including monitoring, logging, error handling, deployment considerations, incident response and recovery.

  • Quality & Testing: A thoughtful approach to software quality and testing, including the ability to determine what should be tested and prioritise testing based on risk and business-critical functionality.

  • Hands-on Implementation: Strong coding capability and the ability to translate architectural decisions into clean, maintainable and production-ready software.

  • Technical Leadership: Ability to raise engineering standards through technical decision-making, code reviews, mentoring, knowledge sharing and constructive challenge.

  • Clear Communication: Ability to explain complex technical concepts and the reasoning behind your decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Typically 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated experience owning complex technical problems and contributing to system design and architectural decisions.

  • Strong commercial software development experience, ideally working with Java and modern backend technologies.

  • Experience working with cloud-based, distributed or high-scale systems.

  • Experience with technologies within our environment — Java, AWS, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, .NET, GitHub and GitLab — is advantageous; we don't expect you to have worked with every technology in our stack.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field is advantageous but not mandatory.

  • Relevant technical certifications are welcomed but are not a requirement.

At Eftsure, our people are our priority. You’ll join a collaborative engineering environment where you’ll have the opportunity to solve meaningful technical problems, influence how we build and scale our platform, and contribute to technology that protects businesses from payment fraud.

Skills Required

  • 4 to 8 years of relevant professional experience as a software engineer
  • Expertise in software development, languages, design patterns and modern development methodologies
  • Proficiency with Java
  • Experience with .NET
  • Experience with MSSQL
  • Experience with PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience with CI/CD using GitHub and GitLab
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor junior engineers
  • Strong software architecture and scalable system design skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional onshore and offshore teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related (advantage)
  • Relevant advanced technical certifications
