  • This role is hybrid requiring 2 days in office at our San Francisco hub every Tuesday & Wednesday (located at 130 Sutter St). 
About the Role:

We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Post-Booking team, someone who doesn't just build, but raises the quality bar across our entire ecosystem. You'll be instrumental in shaping the consumer experience following the initial booking process.
Your work will focus on building new features to improve the customer experience through high-performance Node.js services and AI-driven enhancements, as well as critical replatforming work to modernize our microservice infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Architect: Define the multi-quarter technical roadmap for Post-Booking domains (backend, frontend web client etc) along with the engineering manager and architects - driving strategy, addressing tech debt, and evolving scalable system architecture, APIs, and data models.
  • Tech Lead: Lead complex, cross-team technical initiatives.
  • Solver: Translate ambiguous, high-stakes business goals into clear technical strategies, designs, and experiments.
  • Multiplier: Serve as a Javascript subject-matter expert, champion high-quality testing and AI practices,  mentor engineers, and produce durable technical documentation.
  • Champion AI-Driven Development: Lead the adoption of Spec-Driven Development (SDD) leveraging advanced AI tools, ensuring engineers consistently turn well-defined specs into robust, scalable Node.js implementations and comprehensive test suites.
Requirements:
  • 4 years professional software engineering including a mix of frontend and backend experience, with demonstrated impact (leading complex domains, influencing multiple teams).
  • Extensive professional experience with Node.js and microservice architecture; familiarity with Ruby on Rails is a plus.
  • Strong SQL and data modeling for financial use cases (Postgres, Snowflake).
  • Hands-on experience with async/event-driven systems (Kafka) and microservice architecture.
  • Proven track record designing and owning observability/alerting for critical systems.
  • Mastery in building, debugging, and scaling distributed systems. 
  • Excellent communication, ability to influence without authority, and a strong ownership mentality for systems handling money and trust.
Bonus Points if you have:
  • Experience with Spec Driven Development. 
  • Hands-on AI tools experience.
  • Experience with rebuilding legacy software systems.
  • Familiarity with microservice and event-driven architectures at scale.
Compensation & Benefits: 

At Taskrabbit, our approach to compensation is designed to be competitive, transparent, and equitable. Total compensation consists of base pay + bonus + benefits + perks.

The base pay range for this position is $180,000 - $192,075. This range is representative of base pay only, and does not include any other total cash compensation amounts, such as company bonus or benefits. Final offer amounts may vary from the amounts listed above and will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, geography, and level.
