SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Senior Software Engineer will serve as a technical leader within the EHR engineering team, leading the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical software for patients, clinical staff, and partner organizations. They will set architectural direction, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and take end-to-end ownership of high-impact projects- collaborating across clinical, operations, and technology teams to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable systems that improve patient outcomes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Leads full-stack development of highly scalable distributed systems using TypeScript, React, and NextJS, taking technical ownership of projects from conceptualization through production deployment and ongoing support.
- Participates in and facilitates all aspects of agile software development including design, implementation, and deployment.
- Architects end-to-end systems optimized for performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability, including complex data schemas, stored procedures, and query optimization in PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server.
- Leads the design and integration of RESTful APIs, enterprise-grade security and identity architectures using OAuth, and healthcare interoperability standards including FHIR and HL7.
- Establishes and enforces engineering standards for containerized deployments (Docker), code collaboration (Git/Bitbucket), code quality, testing, documentation, and incident response.
- Mentors Software Engineer I and II staff through code reviews, pair programming, and architectural guidance.
- Partners with NEMS Clinical, Operations, and Technology leadership to define roadmaps, translate business needs into technical solutions, and evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks.
- Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or STEM program; advanced degree a plus.
- 5+ years of professional experience building and shipping large-scale software applications in a healthcare or regulated industry environment, with deep proficiency in PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, React, NextJS, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
- Deep experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and microservices architectures, including enterprise security and identity patterns using OAuth, SAML, or OpenID Connect.
- Hands-on experience with healthcare interoperability standards including FHIR and HL7; SMART on FHIR experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams or serving as a technical lead on complex, cross-functional projects.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and DevOps practices including CI/CD pipeline management, infrastructure-as-code, and containerization; expert-level debugging, performance optimization, and testing.
- In-depth knowledge of HIPAA, privacy, and data security requirements in a healthcare context; experience at an FQHC or community health organization is a strong plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
LANGUAGE:
- Must be able to fluently speak, read and write English.
- Fluency in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin), Vietnamese, Spanish and other languages may be required depending on location.
- Fluency in other languages are an asset.
STATUS:
This is an FLSA Exempt position.
This is not an OSHA high-risk position.
