Senior Software Engineer - VMEC TRP
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Milford Proving Grounds in Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum.
Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) is a team that is comprised of inclusive and diverse Agile teams, where everyone has a voice in the conversation. VMEC is a production level group that supports the definition, design, and development of all embedded controllers that impact vehicle motion. Thermal Runaway Propagation (TRP) is focused on the development and execution of diagnostics and prognostics to detect and prevent thermal runaway in the High Voltage Battery System.
The Role
VMEC TRP Team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer who is a creative, highly motivated, agile problem solver with passion and expertise in Embedded Controls and pays great attention to detail. The selected candidate will develop diagnostic and prognostic algorithms using telemetry, data analysis & best practices for VMEC features and support the growth capabilities to keep us at the forefront of emerging technology.
What You'll Do
- Produce or deliver software for embedded controls systems in the TRP organization for VMEC Electrification
- Design, development and implementation of Physics and Controls requirements to continuously improve software for mechatronic controls and diagnostics strategies as well as controller communication.
- Test & demonstrate software functionality & readiness
- Supply common solutions across all GM owned software
- Document requirements for design solutions and link them to test cases that can demonstrate software functionality
- Utilize automated test tools in build environments, benches, and vehicles to verify functionality of the feature at the Controller, System and Vehicle level
- Team Collaboration
- Provide leadership to Agile Scrum team members to deliver software solutions
- Lead, coordinate and collaborate w/ departments outside VMEC such as Systems & Safety, Electrical Architecture, Software Defined Vehicle, Calibration and Vehicle Performance
- Provide a voice in software planning events, share ideas & learnings and help teach/train others
- Document lessons learned and Best Practices for controls design implementation
- Utilize Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS)
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field
- 5+ years Engineering experience with proven technical and professional skills in job-related area
- Knowledge of Matlab, Simulink, Python scripting, INCA, etc.
- Knowledge of sub-system integration including design, implementation, and testing
- Proficient in C, C++ programming
- Outstanding levels of interpersonal and relationship management skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as required
- Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment
- High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, take initiative/self-directed
- Consistent demonstration of innovative thinking that is customer-centric
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with sometimes incomplete requirements
- Analytical problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult
- Demonstrated honesty, integrity, and trust. Lead by example
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field
- Skilled in C, C++, Matlab, Simulink, Python scripting, ETAS, INCA, MDA and other software tools for either the development or testing of software
- Experience with JIRA and Scaled Agile Framework
- Experience with bootloader, embedded operating systems, controller communication or diagnostics
- Knowledge of AUTOSAR standards and methodology
- Knowledge and experience with CAN, LIN, ARXML, or Ethernet communications protocol
- Architecture
- Knowledge of Software Architecture
