Senior Software Engineer - Test Automation/Java
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Test Automation (Java) with 5+ years of experience to join the Developer Experience team, responsible for the Mastercard Developers portal and related tools used by developers globally.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on building and maintaining high-quality automated tests and frameworks. You will work closely with software engineers to embed test automation directly into the development workflow and ensure reliable, production-ready releases.
This is an individual contributor role, with opportunities to grow in scope and responsibility over time.
HOW WILL YOU WORK
You will be an embedded member of a feature team and take end-to-end ownership of testing for assigned features.
For each feature, you will:
- Understand the feature and its requirements
- Test it manually first, exploring edge cases and real user scenarios
- Identify defects and work directly with developers to clarify issues and drive fixes
- Once the feature stabilizes, design and implement automated tests to ensure long-term reliability
The balance between manual testing and automation is typically around 50/50, but may vary depending on the feature, its complexity, and delivery phase.
WHAT WILL YOU DO
- Own testing for assigned features as part of a feature team
- Perform manual and exploratory testing, identify defects, and work directly with developers on fixes
- Design and implement automated tests in Java (API, UI, integration)
- Ensure new features are covered by reliable automation before release
- Maintain and improve test stability and CI/CD integration
WHAT YOU BRING
- Strong experience in test automation or software engineering in test
- Very good Java skills used in automation or tooling
- Experience testing APIs, UI, and distributed systems
- Ability to combine manual testing and automation effectively
- Experience collaborating closely with developers in feature teams
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern delivery practices
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience in cloud-native or microservices-based environments
- Familiarity with developer platforms or tools for external/internal developer experience
