The Role
Design, build, test, release, and support customer-facing software using modern microservices and micro-frontends. Own technical delivery from solution shaping through production, contribute to architecture and engineering quality, collaborate across Gurugram and Oxford, and provide technical guidance to engineers without line-management responsibility. Apply strong testing, code review, CI/CD, operational excellence, and sound judgment when using AI-assisted development tools.
Summary Generated by Built In
Based in Gurugram, you will join a new and growing engineering hub that forms part of Aurora’s wider Software Development organisation, with the main team based in Oxford. This is an opportunity to do meaningful hands-on engineering work while helping shape how the Gurugram hub grows, collaborating closely with experienced colleagues across both locations. With a team lead already in place, this role is focused on technical impact, product delivery and engineering excellence.
Aurora’s mission is to help drive the energy transition through data-driven energy market intelligence and software that supports decision-makers across the power system. You will partner closely with colleagues in Oxford and across the business to build software that matters in a domain that is both technically challenging and globally significant.
You will work on modern microservices and micro-frontends using technologies such as TypeScript, ExpressJS, AWS Lambdas and React, helping to build customer-facing software from design through to deployment. We work with fast feedback loops, modern delivery practices and tooling that enables changes to reach customers multiple times a day, giving engineers real ownership and a clear connection between their work and customer outcomes.
We are looking for engineers who believe that strong engineering fundamentals matter more than ever in the age of AI. Clear architecture, thoughtful abstractions, strong testing, effective code review and operational excellence are central to how we build software. AI can help us move faster, but it does not replace engineering judgement. In many ways, it increases the importance of it. This role will suit an engineer who wants to use AI-assisted engineering productively while maintaining high standards of quality, maintainability and craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build and maintain high-quality software as part of a growing engineering hub in Gurugram, working closely with the main team in Oxford.
  • Take ownership of technical delivery for meaningful pieces of work, from shaping solutions through implementation, testing, release and operational support.
  • Collaborate with product, design and engineering colleagues across Gurugram and Oxford to solve complex technical and domain problems.
  • Contribute to clear architecture, maintainable abstractions, strong testing practices, effective code review and operational excellence.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools thoughtfully to improve productivity while applying sound judgement, preserving code quality and maintaining high engineering standards.
  • Support other engineers through collaboration, pairing and technical guidance, without line-management responsibility.

What we are looking for
Required attributes:
  • Substantial commercial experience developing complex software systems using some of the following: Node, TypeScript, ExpressJS, React, SQL, NoSQL, cloud infrastructure or similar technologies
  • A strong track record of delivering high-quality, maintainable software and solving difficult technical problems in production environments
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, including clear system design, thoughtful abstraction sound testing practices and a disciplined approach to code quality,
  • Experience leading technical work from inception to completion as a senior individual contributor, working effectively with teammates across disciplines
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to work confidently in complex technical and domain contexts
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute positively to a distributed team across Gurugram and Oxford
  • Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and operationally reliable software delivery
  • An interest in AI-assisted engineering and a clear understanding that AI is a powerful tool to enhance delivery, not a substitute for engineering judgement or craftsmanship

Desirable attributes:
  • Experience of Python
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools in a professional engineering environment

What we offer
  • A collaborative and international engineering culture, with close day-to-day connection to colleagues in Gurugram and Oxford
  • The opportunity to join early and make a visible contribution to a growing engineering hub
  • A competitive salary package
  • The chance to work on meaningful software in the energy transition, solving technically demanding and commercially relevant problems
  • Access to regular coaching and mentoring sessions and the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals
  • Access to the Aurora Academy, our training programme offering a range of opportunities to develop your skills within your role and within the wider context of the industry
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), offering a complete support network with expert advice and compassionate guidance 24/7/365 across a wide range of personal and professional matters
The Company is committed to the principle that no employee or job applicant shall receive unfavourable treatment on grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity.

The successful candidate would start as soon as possible. The team will review applications as they are received. Salary will be competitive with experience.

To apply, please submit your Résumé / CV, a personal summary, your salary expectations and please inform us of your notice period.
