Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.

Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, Equipment Monitoring, and Site Visibility. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

About the role:

The Routing team is at the forefront of building one of Samsara's most ambitious mobile experiences: a critical tool designed to empower drivers in the field, keeping them safe, efficient, and on track. This is a deeply technical and high-impact problem space, demanding innovation in blending real-time data, thoughtful UX, and seamless platform coordination to create a robust experience under challenging conditions like poor connectivity, dynamic job schedules, and constantly changing routes.

We're looking for a visionary Senior Software Engineer who thrives on owning complex problems, driving solutions from inception to impact, and working close to the customer. You'll join a team that values quality, performance, and above all, end-to-end ownership of a product critical to the success and safety of our customers' operations. If you're passionate about shaping the future of enterprise mobile applications and leaving a significant mark, this is your opportunity.

This is a full-time remote position.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won’t be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
  • You’re energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
  • You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-calibre team that will encourage you to do your best.
In this role, you will:
  • As a Senior Software Engineer on the Routing team, you won't just contribute; you'll lead and drive impactful initiatives across the entire development lifecycle.
  • Lead End-to-End Development: Take full ownership of complex features and projects, guiding them from initial concept (0-1) through design, development, deployment, and ongoing optimization. You'll architect and build high-performance React Native mobile applications for both iOS and Android at enterprise scale.
  • Drive Technical Direction: Contribute significantly to architectural decisions and strategic planning for the mobile platform, influencing our technical roadmap.
  • Mentor and Elevate: Play a key role in fostering a culture of technical excellence, actively mentoring and providing guidance to more junior engineers, and contributing to knowledge sharing that elevates the entire team.
  • Innovate and Design: Drive the design and implementation of polished, user-friendly UI components, with a keen focus on accessibility and consistency across platforms, ensuring an exceptional mobile user experience.
  • Champion Performance Excellence: Proactively profile and optimize application performance and responsiveness. You'll identify bottlenecks, reduce render times, and improve memory usage to deliver a smooth and stable app experience across all supported devices.
  • Bridge the Gap: Seamlessly integrate with native iOS/Android modules and APIs by leveraging React Native’s bridging capabilities, unlocking platform-specific functionality and expanding the app's capabilities.
  • Collaborate and Deliver Impact: Partner closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers, translating high-level requirements into robust, scalable mobile features. You'll ensure top-tier code quality through rigorous peer reviews, comprehensive testing, and unwavering adherence to mobile development best practices.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 6+ years of software development experience, including 4+ years of hands-on mobile app development with React Native in production environments
  • Deep knowledge of React Native as a mobile-first framework, with a strong grasp of its architecture, native components, and limitations
  • Proven experience creating native modules or bridging React Native with native iOS and Android code (Objective-C/Swift and Java/Kotlin)
  • Strong track record of performance tuning in mobile apps, including use of profiling tools and techniques to diagnose and resolve performance issues
  • Hands-on experience ensuring mobile app accessibility compliance, applying best practices so that the app is usable by all customers
  • Solid testing and debugging skills in a mobile context – experience writing unit and integration tests and utilizing continuous integration pipelines to maintain app stability and quality

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Familiarity with geospatial or mapping technologies such as Mapbox or Google Maps SDK
  • Domain experience in logistics, fleet management, or industrial IoT
  • Background in native mobile development (Swift/Objective-C and Kotlin/Java)
