Position Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer at Diligent, you’ll be hands-on in shaping the future of our platform by designing and delivering secure, scalable, and high-performing backend services that power our SaaS solutions. You’ll work extensively with Python to build cloud-native and serverless solutions on AWS—either from the ground up or by modernizing existing systems.
In this role, you’ll own services end-to-end, from design and implementation through deployment and monitoring. You’ll lead by example in architectural discussions, mentor engineers across the team, and help evolve our engineering standards. You’ll also actively champion the use of AI-powered development tools to streamline workflows, improve quality, and increase team productivity.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about building great software in Python and excited about how AI-augmented engineering can unlock faster, safer, and more effective ways of working.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and own secure, scalable Python services, making informed technical trade-offs to meet reliability, performance, and cost objectives.
Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and event-driven services using Python frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Flask, Django) and AWS-native patterns.
Leverage AI tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, and prototyping, while critically validating outputs to ensure correctness, security, and maintainability.
Advise on appropriate AI usage, including LLM concepts, prompt patterns, and ethical/privacy considerations; embed monitoring, logging, and compliance checks into workflows.
Lead and participate in architectural discussions; document designs, decisions, residual risks, and mitigations.
Coach and mentor peers on Python best practices, cloud-native design, and AI-augmented development approaches.
Partner closely with Product, Security, DevOps, and Data teams to align on features, deployment strategies, and compliance requirements.
Scout, evaluate, and pilot emerging tools, frameworks, and AI toolchains; integrate automated governance and quality checks into CI/CD pipelines.
Improve observability, incident response, and operational resilience with a focus on reliability, productivity, and cost efficiency.
5–7 years of professional software engineering experience, primarily using Python, delivering secure and scalable backend services in an agile environment.
Strong proficiency in Python and backend frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Flask, Django) for building production-grade APIs and services.
Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs (OpenAPI/Swagger) and asynchronous or event-driven systems.
Solid understanding of AWS (e.g., Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, API Gateway) and cloud-native or serverless architectures.
Comfortable with infrastructure as code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or similar), containerization (Docker), and modern CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and/or NoSQL stores; able to design, optimize, and troubleshoot schemas and queries.
Applies security best practices in code and cloud environments (IAM, secrets management, least privilege, secure API design).
Working knowledge of LLM concepts (e.g., hallucinations, prompt sensitivity, model limitations) and safe vs. unsafe AI use cases.
Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools, with a critical eye toward accuracy, safety, and maintainability.
Skilled in prompt engineering, including designing reusable prompts and coaching peers on effective usage.
Familiar with ethical, privacy, and cost risks (bias, data leakage, vendor lock-in) and able to embed basic compliance checks into workflows.
Strong communication skills, able to explain technical and AI-related concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven ability to mentor or guide peers and influence engineering best practices.
Familiarity with frontend frameworks (e.g., React or Angular) to collaborate effectively on end-to-end features.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
