We're looking for a senior full stack engineer to build the systems and interfaces that help the world's best and brightest build in the U.S.
You'll work across our internal case management tools and applicant-facing portal, from the React applications to the APIs, data models, and real-time systems behind them. We're looking for someone with deep experience building complex web applications and the range to work wherever the product needs them.
What you'll do:Build core product capabilities end to end, across frontend and backend
Evolving our React architecture to support increasingly complex workflows, application state, and live data.
Build document editing, review, and collaboration experiences, including ways for people to supervise and interact with AI-powered workflows.
Partner with product and our design engineer to take ideas from early prototypes through to polished, reliable software.
You have 4+ years shipping product across frontend and backend, with deep expertise in React and TypeScript.
You've taken products from 0 to 1 and owned architectural decisions as usage and complexity grew.
You've built sophisticated web applications and understand the tradeoffs around state management, performance, synchronization, and concurrent changes.
You're comfortable building backend services and reasoning about where responsibilities belong across client and server.
You can take a hard problem in a complex, unfamiliar system and independently research, prototype, and drive it to a working solution.
Experience with editors, collaborative applications, CRDTs, SSE or WebSockets, and AI-powered products is especially relevant. We don't expect you to have worked with all of them; we're interested in the systems you've built and the decisions you've owned.
CultureEngineering is woven into the company. You'll work directly with our legal ops team, product, and customers every week.
We value independent judgment. When something is unclear, we expect you to dig in, research, prototype, and validate with users before looking for sign-off.
We protect focused time. Most coordination happens async so people get long stretches of focused work.
We care about craft. Clean APIs, fast UIs, and well-structured data models matter to us.
We're bicoastal but tight-knit. The team is split between San Francisco and New York, and we still operate like one small, close team.
We sponsor visas, obviously.
Competitive base and equity, scaled with experience.
Competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits.
401k with a 3% company match.
Equipment/office stipend.
Annual team off-site in cool places.
In person in San Francisco or New York.
Lighthouse is an equal opportunity workplace; we welcome people from all backgrounds, communities, and experiences. Apply through our Careers page. If selected, we'll schedule a call to get to know you better and do a deep technical dive into the work you've chosen to highlight.
